President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker

Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker are to discuss foreign policy and Russia-EU ties at the upcoming St. Petersburg Economic Forum, news outlet RIA-Novosti reported Thursday. “It [the discussion] will be about the relationship between Russia and the European Union. It will be an exchange of views in regard to current regional problems and about Syria and Ukraine,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

The St. Petersburg Economic Forum, Russia's self-styled version of the Davos Economic Forum, will take place between June 16 -18. The event takes place shortly before EU member states are scheduled to make their decision on renewing anti-Russian sanctions on June 30.

Juncker's decision to attend the forum has faced resistance from other European leaders, the Politico website reported, citing diplomatic sources. A number of countries, including the US, are concerned that Juncker's visit could strengthen Putin's position before the sanction vote. Juncker is the first leader of an EU institution to visit Russia since sanctions were put in place in 2014.

Why does Juncker feel it necessary to hobnob with Putin in the days prior to the EU vote on rolling over sanctions? Crimea has not been returned. Fighting continues in the east with dead and wounded everyday. Moscow has not fulfilled even one of its Minsk II obligations. Today, Stop War - Stop Putin rallies will take place in 22 cities around Europe. Why doesn't Juncker attend one of those events instead of rubbing shoulders with Putin?

Junker is an irresponsible politician. He always has been. But it was also always likely that the EU would not maintain the sanctions, when it became evident that they would take time to force the issue and thus drag on. But those idiots had prevented timely measures to prevent Ukraine falling prey to Putin and so this is sadly in character.

The sanctions against Russia are simply a leg of an economic war attempting to bankrupt Russia. They are an attempt to conceal the US coup d'etat in Kiev, The EU and ECB are simply toadies of the US. The backlash of the sanctions has hurt German, French, Italian and other farmers and their is great angst amont the populace that they are a complete farce. There is a huge propaganda program organized by the US to create fear of Russia and you know that pushing those fear buttons is good for business. The US business, that is. "War is good business, and business is good." When you create fear it is another name for Terror War. Sound familiar????

The US/EU/G7 sanctions against the Russian Federation are in place to persuade Moscow to return the stolen Crimea and withdraw from eastern Ukraine. No country has by force annexed another nations land in Europe since the end of WWII.

Moscow has abrogated these agreements/treaties with its invasion and occupation of Ukraine...

What? And no charges against the USA for engineering the coup d'etat to topple a democratically elected leader. A leader who had agreed to early elections. 100 dead Maidan protestors and police shot by whom? Now, Ukraine is bankrupt, pensions are reduced, energy costs are up, but the oligarchs are fat. They wasted Ukraine's limited resources on a civil war of their own choice and initiation. US troops all over Ukraine. CIA people running the Ukraine government! Ukraine is screwed by the USA, not by Russia.

This is reality, not the Jason Bourne movie series.

Armed and masked Russian soldiers without insignia surround the Supreme Council of Crimea building on 27 February 2014
while the pro-Russian Aksyonov government is illegally installed on the inside

There is no dodge to this factoid Fagan...

No country has by force annexed another nations land in Europe since the end of WWII.

The lone exception being the Russian Federation's illegal invasion/annexation of Crimea in 2014.

In March of 2014, the United Nations General Assembly rejected the Russian annexation of Crimea adopting a resolution affirming the "territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognised borders". The resolution also underscores that the referendum in Crimea, having no validity, cannot form the basis for any alteration of the status of Crimea. The resolution draws attention to the obligation of all States and international organizations not to recognize or to imply the recognition of Russia's annexation.
