What happens if Trump gets elected?

I'm on the fence about Trump, one day I'm all for him after hearing him call out the Bush family for the Iraq WMD mishap, then on another I become furious over his rhetoric or fearful of the prospect of a Trump administration.
This is going to get complicated.

I don't think we have all that much to worry about.

Look at it this way: Obama tried like hell to make big changes...to disrupt the American status quo both domestically and around the world. While he succeeded to a certain extent, our government...our way of life...prevented him from doing everything he wanted and intended to do.

A Trump Presidency would be much the same.

Waking up and Trump has runaway with another GOP primary. It's looking more and more likely that he's going to be the man for the Republicans and he has a very good chance at getting elected.
As Brits/Europeans what do we make of this and how will our governments respond? I mean this is a man I associate with Scottish golf courses and he could potentially be in charge of the most powerful nuclear arsenal on earth plus all the US armed forces on our soil. In a time of political unrest in the middle East and with Russia what harm could this do? From an outside point of view America had regressed significantly over the past 8 years in terms of global influence and now it looks like they are losing their minds....Time to start investing in defence.

I find the whole thing fascinating, he seems to coalesce a lot of the views I have read and encountered here on this forum. His view of the world outside the white American experience are scary and I wonder whether is is just for show or whether he really means some of the things he says. What I really find interesting is how the view of the illegal Mexican hordes menace has echoes in how many non-Europeans talk of the threatening tide of muslims who supposedly will one day overtake Europe. There are well documented reports saying English would become a minority language in the US and that white Americans would also become a minority - I often see a transposed bitterness when Americans talk of Europe and Trump beautifully represents that bitterness.

Transplant muslims for mexicans and a have a beleaguered white population under threat and you see what they are fearful of.

and how will our governments respond? ~

Same as they would to any other US President; they'll seek to do business with America still.

The latter's a good idea either way regardless, to be honest.

In any case, however... Yeah. I share your concerns. I'm really hoping that Rubio pulls it off here, but that's hardly a given at this point. While I very highly doubt that Trump could actually win a national election (basically no minorities will vote for him, only a piddly number of women, and less than half of the white middle class unless he manages to pull an almost literal rabbit out of his hat), it's certainly a contingency we need to keep in mind either way regardless.

Best case scenario (which still sucks pretty hard, as far as I'm concerned), it turns that he was just bluffing on most of what he claims to believe, or finds himself blocked by overwhelmingly resistance in congress and the courts, and basically just winds up governing like an uncharacteristically militaristic "lame duck" democrat. Our over-seas position and credibility will undoubtedly suffer, just because of Trump's out of control mouth and uncouth image, but some variation of that's likely to happen either way regardless, simply given how the United States isn't as militarily or economically "all-powerful" as it used to be. In any eventuality, I doubt even Trump would be nuts enough to try and start another war.

Worst case scenario? Well... I'm not even really in the mood to talk about that right now. lol

Whats do you think sane republican voters would do if he were nominated? I´ve allready assumed many would jump ship and support Hillary (who is really quite right wing on a number of important issues) but presumably this would not be the case if sanders was the Democratic nominee.

As a Brit/Swede European I am quite relaxed with a Trump presidency. He sees the danger from Islamism which Obama most certainly does not. He is not Green Phanatic. He is not a religious maniac. And an added plus: he would handle Putin much better than the current feeble administration.

That actually bombed 7 countries. I shudder to think what an assertive adminstration would look like.

JFK brought the world back from the brink and also handled the civil right movemenvery well considering the social unrest, the man was also a war hero.

The world could only dream of another JFK

JFK, the most over-rated Pres in US history. The one who got his country into the Vietnam morass. The one who had the presidency bought for him by his British hating, Nazi loving father, Joe Kennedy.

Not just democrats, the entire Latino population hates him and he will lose on that margin alone.

Another sweeping generalisation. I know you dislike being troubled by facts but a significant proportion of Latinos hate Trump so little they vote for him in primaries.

If Trump gets elected.. the first he will do is invade Scotland to defend his golf courses. Then he will divorce his wife and take a trip to eastern Europe.. lets call it a "Freedom tour 2017" and find another hot young eastern European bride.... that is if he does not make incest legal in the US and marry his daughter.

He will also start wars around the world to get back at people who made fun of him.

Is this supposed to be funny or do you actually believe this tripe?

I agree both are so corrupt it could be possible.
I could actually see it starting off that way, then Trump started doing better than he expected so he decided screw Hillary I want to win the prize.
Not a CTer and dont actually believe Trumps ego would even allow him to play second fiddle to anyone but when you have such dishonest people running....

Do you have any evidence that Trump is in any way corrupt? Or do you think you are justified in making anything up in an attempt to discredit him?

A strong and confident administration would not need to bomb anyone. Who was the US Pres who said "Walk softly and carry a big stick"? The point being not to have to use the stick.

OK sure he is as uncorrupt as Hillary.

So whom would you not have bombed?

Exactly. The millions of legal immigrants who have come to this country legally and have worked hard for their citizenship or are working towards it have no fear of Trump and respect him the same as he respects them. It is criminals with no respect for our laws who are here illegally and are trying to circumvent our laws with anchor babies and other corrupt measures that need to fear Trump and do.

Thought I would unearth this zombie!

So how is everyone feeling? I can't remember a US election day this talked about in the UK, its everywhere.

To kill a zombie you smash its head in.
I suggest we do the same with all these election threads ;)

I'm probably just going to view the site as a guest tonight, watch the madness from a distance.

I wont watch anything to do with the horror show err I mean election. One last night of peaceful sleep before I find out who the worst president in history will be.

Same here.

If anyone remotely expects me to stay up all night (8 hours ahead of N.Y. alone) for any further sampling of this atrocious spectacle, they need their head more examined than I would, were I to do that.

I expected a long night for us Europeans but it seems it will be weak in entertainment value. Clinton it is...
