Muslim women 'stopped from becoming Labour councillors'

Muslim women 'stopped from becoming Labour councillors' - BBC News

"Muslim Women's Network UK demanded an inquiry into "systematic misogyny displayed by significant numbers of Muslim male local councillors".
"They don't like women to be heard, to be empowered," it told BBC Newsnight."[...]

"Because I didn't have my father's consent and support, I had to step down. I was pressured into stepping down," said Ms Bashir, who was 31 and married with two children at the time."

O dear, Muslim women in the UK complaining about misogynistic attitudes of Muslim men! I wonder how the apologists are going to explain this away?

But then, should we be surprised? It was not that long ago I posted this story:

Gasp! Shock! Horror! Stunned I am, just stunned. Who would ever have thought there was a misogynistic tendency amongst Muslim men??? You must be kidding me, this story can't possibly be true, it just can't! And the Labour Party just couldn't possibly support something that demonstrated inequality! Well, I am just in shock over this, just plain shock!

They don't like women to be heard, to be empowered,

Well DUH!!!! they are conservative....and the type of religion has nothing to do with their views.... religious conservatives of all faiths dont think women are equal, pure and simple.

It is freaking hilarious that people forget how hard it was for Margret Thatcher to get a seat in the Conservative Party back in the day. Or how few women are elected in conservative right wing parties in most countries.. look at the GOP.. how many women do they have compared to the Democrats, both now and historically?

So cry me river over this thread and its clear anti Muslim bull****. Yes it is disgusting what these councilors are doing and it has to be stopped, but it is no different to what happened to Margret Thatcher and many other women who wanted to run as a conservative right winger.... and still happens in some parts of the conservative parties.. the old boys club as they call it. And lets not even get into business where this type of discrimination against women is rampant, especially in big old corporations... facts of female employment at the top level in Fortune 500 companies is all the proof that is needed, that this aint a religious issue... but a male dominated conservative backward thinking problem.

You're so all over the place, I don't know where to start. You rant from what Thatcher had to go through in the 70s, to backward thinking problems, to Muslim bull****. What I'm raising is a problem that is happening in 2015, in one of the mainstream political parties in the UK. Thus, once again highlighting the disastrous consequences of failed multiculturalism, where communities are encouraged to live in enclaves. If you wish to make threads about female persecution, in other walks of life, be my guest.

How interesting that you focus your attack on the Labour Party's attitudes towards to Muslim women when in last year's General Election there were 8 Muslim women elected to the Commons. Of those, 6 were Labour MPs, 1 was from the SNP and just 1 from the Conservative Party, yet according to you and the Daily Mail, it's Labour that has the problem.

I've no doubt that the Labour Party needs to work much harder to empower women in general, and ethnic minority women in particular, to participate in politics. That goes without saying. What I think you'd like people to believe is that there's a particular problem for the left in doing so when it is clear that it is on the right of politics that people from ethnic backgrounds, and Muslim women in particular, have the greatest trouble in being accepted as having a role to play. Your faked outrage is a bit transparent Paul. Perhaps you'd like to present some evidence that Muslim women are so much better represented by the Tories or UKIP (the political right in the UK) than they are by Labour or the SNP ( the UK political left).

What you can be certain of is that the Labour and SNP parties are those that will debate and discuss seriously how to increase representation of Muslim women in parliament. The Tories and the UKIPpers will continue to use their ethnic minorities as political beards.

Sorry Andy, I'm in the middle of watching news night, who are covering the story in depth. Deary me, it doesn't look good for Labour, officials have been turning a blind eye! Where have we heard that said before?

Not good. Labour policy of all women short lists manipulated by Muslim Labour men, suggesting they had insufficient female candidates, which was a lie. Male Muslim men intimidating families of female candidates. One female candidate has moved to the Conservative party, as the only way to have a chance! The report covered lots more anecdotal evidence.

atleast they dont try to redefine "legitimate rape" like christians in america do.....lol

seriously i dont get attacks like this? are you saying muslims dont have liberal values, so we should deport them?

Best of luck to her, as she'll have about one tenth of a chance of getting selected as a Tory as she will as a Labour candidate. One has to wonder about the motivation of someone who can't get selected as a socialist, so decides to try to get selected as a conservative.

I'm sure you're lapping it up though, Paul. You being non partisan n'all.

Misplaced schadenfreude of partisan right wing posters trying to use one bullet to shoot two issues? On here? In the Europe forum? I don't believe it I tells ya.

Bang on the money, and straight to the point as usual, William. Props to you.

Oh it was terrible what the Conservatives did to Thatcher! They chose her as their party leader so she could become Britain's PM - how dastardly, how caddish.

Companies, large and small, want to be successful. They choose the best qualified persons to lead them. For all sorts of reasons, including the priority for most women being familly over career, the majority of people willing and able to lead companies are men.

Again, all we get from those self identifying extreme left types, is you're 'right wing ' for raising such issues. How sad that the left have moved so far from the causes of the truly oppressed.

Woe is you mate; If you don't want your posts to be identified as those of a duck then stop them from quacking like one.

If you were serious about the issue, your OP would have been written very differently from the one you chose to post. As it is, that post almost orgasms over certain aspects of the news report and if that is what gets you off then you should own it and not remain in denial.

:rofl I'm in denial, the irony.

Shrug. If you deny the obvious tone in your posts then either you are in denial or I have mistaken the whole tone of them and to be honest, your subsequent posts did not have a different pattern so what am I left to believe here?

What about da Christians? What about da Tories?

1. Muslims should not be allowed into Europe.
2. Women should be allowed into office.

You've changed your tune. I thought you were against women in public office.

Typo. I meant to say, should not.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Spreading disinformation again, are we?

Except that Paleocon pretty much appears to have provided evidence for this in his posts so far.
Is he the official representative for all Christians? I Don't believe he's ever actually read the Bible. You know, the book upon which Christianity is based. You know, the book that tells us to love our wives as Christ loved the church. ;)
