Keep it simple......shoot refugees (another AfD meltdown)

I actually don't mind vigilantes, if they target criminal asylum seekers. When the police doesn't do their job, then someone else need to keep the streets safe.

However, the comment from AFD is beyond stupid. Not only does it remind Germans of the Berlin wall, but it is not needed. They are coming to get asylum, if they can't get asylum they will go somewhere else. In addition Germany has enough power, so they can actually change the border system in Greece. They can help Greece to return all boats back to Turkey. They can also set up safezones and make deals with Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon.

There are so many options, and he managed to chose the most stupid one.

I'm against vigilante "justice" irrespective of who they target. People taking the law into their own hands and thinking it's ok to punish people they suspect of being criminals without any kind of due process doesn't work for me.

Sounds much like a return to lynch mobs....

I agree wrt the stupidity of the comment and that's something hardly gender linked.

OTH one strongly suspects (knowing her) that she works on the principle of any publicity being good publicity. Thus throwing a sop to her own while being fully aware that the great majority of Germans despises her party anyway, whether she spouts stuff like this or shuts up altogether.

But it has the establishment parties up in arms and that's what makes news. Her news.

Not an unheard of tactic and one need not go as far back as the 30s in Germany.

I am more pragmatic. When the police fail to do their job, then we are not living in a legal state anymore. And in that case I prefer vigilantes over letting criminals do whatever they want.

Not so sure that any publicity is good publicity. Sweden Democrats experienced even more hate, but they slowly build themselves up, now they got almost 30%. If Afd didn't make these kind of comments, then I think they would already be at 20%.

When people are angry at the government, then they look for alternatives. Those people are not going to support a party, who wants to shoot asylum seekers.

I noted that there were references to the Berlin Wall and must say that I did not really see the applicability of the comparison. This is especially true as one very pertinent group involved in flight from the GRD -the flight helpers- were heroes in the BRD. In the present circumstances the BRD is hunting them with more vigor than drug dealers, though, they are doing identically the same thing.

They are doing the same thing only Germany wanted the "Fluchthelfers" of old to help the suppressed fleeing, while they don't want the "traffickers" to help the suppressed to flee now.

But, of course, it is only the job they do that is the same and not the individual persons. But probably you realize that that is not important.

You may want to differentiate a bit more. There's a difference between flight helpers (Fluchthelfer) andf Traffickers (Schleuser).

A small number of the latter may have some idealistic motivations, the majority however are simply organized gangs that take extortionate amounts of money from their "clients" (often enough victims).

Equating greedy groups that cast hundreds adrift in unseaworthy tubs with those that assisted in fleeing the GDR, doesn't really cut it.

Even where "Fluchthilfe" had become pretty much a business by the 70s in Germany as well, charging even more extortionate fees.

The numbers are different. You are quite right there. But the ultimate danger to the refugees is/was death. The tunnel collapses, the boat goes down in the Baltic, the guard shoots you. Sure there are differences, but making so stark a legal difference in what are in principal albeit not in detail the same thing? Just because too much of a good thing hurts?

The whole set of activities surrounding the refugee dilemma is being argued with justifications and explanations that are always half backed, often contradictory and in many cases one Bundesverfassungsgericht Judge has said, contrary to the constitution. This is really a problem, because it is another major building block of the EU that was touted loudly as a great leap forward but so poorly structured, that it is crumbling before the eyes of the population. And mind you, it is not the first. We just had the Euro crisis and war at the EU borders. This is leading to a delegitimization not only of the EU, but of the parties in the member states that built the EU under false pretense and negligently. Personally, I am fascinated by this. It is not often that you get such spectacular fireworks.

What Europe, what Germany needs is a final solution to the Muslim question ... right?
