Wolfgang Schäuble proposed the tax on petrol sales across the EU to pay for the costs of securing the Schengen Area’s external borders against a further influx of migrants. (...) Even if it cannot secure EU-wide agreement, Germany was prepared to implement a tax with a “coalition of the willing”, Mr Schäuble told the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper.
German finance minister proposes EU-wide petrol tax to pay for refugee crisis - Telegraph
It seems Germany is working hard on its public relations. The goal is to become as hated across Europe as in 1940 or so. Germany is succeeding well in its goal, as usual with German efficiency. First they invite over a million "refugees", many of which spill over to the surrounding countries, then they want to force said surrounding countries to pay for their financial mess. Goodbye Greece public enemy number one, here comes Germany, again. Uninvited as usual, for the third time.

No idea whether Schäuble is the authorized "floater" of ideas now or whether he makes the stuff up himself out of sheer boredom.

Anyway, this is truly old hat. It was withdrawn almost faster than it was spouted.

Over three days ago at that.

Public relations disaster nonetheless. Permanent damage is done.

They created the mess, but they want to punish the citizens for it?

I will be shocked if the EU is still around by 2020.

Re: German finance minister seeks to impose EU tax on petrol to pay for the "refugees

I will be disappointed.

It probably won't last long. Far-Rights/Nationalist groups are making major gains in many EU member states. And almost all of them hate seeing their country as an EU whore.
