Asylum Seeker strike against free food - costing taxpayers around 2000€ per person per month

In the asylum center of Trängslets in Älvdalen, each asylum seeker gets food worth around 65€ of txpayer of money per person and per day (I'd like to become a caterer to the Swedish government at that rate). Despite this, many of the immigrants protested loudly against the food - including by throwing it in the bin. "We do not like the food and we want to have Arabic food", said one of the asylum seekers.

Tax money goes to the privately owned company Fazer, which receives large amounts in the current asylum chaos. For all accommodated in Trängslet, 420 asylum seekers, it delivers food costing around 26,000€ per day or just over 9.6 million€ per year.

The reason for this is that Fazer already got the contract for activities in the kitchen and restaurant at Trängslets even before the asylum center even opened, according to someone from immigration services. But despite skyrocketing food costs - higher than the average salary after tax in Sweden and entirely paid for by the Swedish taxpayers - asylum seekers are greatly dissatisfied with the food. As recently as a few weeks ago they launched a protest by throwing food in the bin.

"It's bad food, and several hundred people are not eating it. We do not like the food and we want to have Arabic food", said asylum seeker Morsi Habashi.

When the first buses with asylum seekers arrived in Trängslet in late October, many of the migrants refused to get off, because they felt that the accommodation was too remote. Together with the opening of the asylum center, the soldiers who formerly resided at the premises, located near a firing range, have moved out. The firing range will be no longer used in order to avoid traumatizing the refugees.

According to immigration services, food costs should not be higher than around 17€ per person per day. But since Fazer's already had the contract, authorities must buy their food from there. Immigration services do assure however that their goal is to always "keep down taxpayer costs."

Video of similar strike at another accommodation, Norrby estate in Fagersta, released in November.

In Finland, it's the same story:

FINLAND A video clip of a group of refugees which goes around in a cemetery in a city in Finland while mocking Christianity as well as the Finns who are buried there, brought up strong feelings in Finland. Now the men who appear in the video, and who live in an asylum accommodation in the city, apologized. A video uploaded on Facebook showed how an Arab refugee makes fun in a cemetery in the city of Kangasala in Finland. Among other things, the man recites verses from the Koran, pretending to lament the dead who are buried in the cemetery and make derisive sign of the cross. All the while his comrades were laughing and filming at a time.

One of the men uploaded the video to Facebook, which rapidly spread among Finns, who reacted with disgust against the disrespect of refugees. The post was commented on by a number of people including several who pronounce death threats against the man in the video. The refugees in the video come from Iraq and live in an asylum accommodation in Kangasala run by the Finnish Red Cross. According to the asylum center's director Katja Ala Kapeen, the man who appears in the video regrets what he did.

"It was wrong and foolish. The man is sorry for what happened, he did not want to offend anyone", she told local newspaper Kangasalan Sanomat.

The Asylum center in Kangasala came to the attention at the end of October in Finnish national media when the refugees organized a protest demanding that they were served Arabic cuisine. "They sometimes feel that Finnish food is poor because they are accustomed to the Iraqi food in their homeland", said manager Ala Kapeen to media company YLE in connection with the protest.

Not everyone likes "Schweinshaxen mit Kraut und eine Maß". ;)

It was not very wise of the EU to expect refugees to not make demands like this anyway.

There is a real disconnect between refugees probably expecting to walk into conditions like they left (culture, economics, what have you) against the various European nations that are trying for a sort of multiculturalism that not all refugees are going to be on board with. To make matters worse it would not be surprising to see general sentiment among refugees that these various host nations should be able to give refugees all they want and in exactly the way they would want it.

Reality sets in, and we see pockets of protest and chaos.

25 years of Western military interference in the ME which has produced millions of pissed off refugees. When will people ever learn?

How about an objective source for all this anti-refugee propaganda? Because I do not believe for 1 second that their food cost there is 65 euro's a day.

Real news sources please, because youtube video's are not the most reliable news sources (especially when they are not from a news organization).

Google "Trängslets" , "Älvdalen" "572 kronor per person och dygn" and you'll find plenty of links in Swedish. Have fun with Google translate. I have to go right now, I'll try to look this evening for an English language link.

The only reason why it costs 67.20 dollars a day is because they are housed in a military camp which has a mandatory catering contract with the government that is worth 67.20 dollars a day. Normally the food costs are 17.62 dollars a day per person.

And that catering company charges the refugee organization the same amount they charge for soldier food.

Refugees should get luxury halal food. Otherwise it's an infringement on their human rights.

Makes you wonder whether those soldiers used to eat lobster and caviar from disposable golden spoons on daily basis. Either way, should it be a reason to complain?

If the food is not fit for purpose (Middle eastern men, women and children) then maybe it is not fit for purpose. And you also talked about the high price and that was something that had nothing to do with the refugees and their food needs.

Don't like the food? Then starve, you ungrateful bastards!
