Moscow Court Bans Church of Scientology

This certainly applies in Russia:

Scientology is a fraud, a maffia. Like the Russian government.

The first positive thing that Russia has done in a very long time.

Scientology is insane, but banning it isn't right either.

Well, there's little public support for outlawing all religions. It makes a nice John Lennon song. Someone should play it on a piano in Paris.

Since my religion is personal, you would be incorrect.

Sadly for far too many people religion isn't personal - they make it public, use it to try to influence others' behaviour, use it try to influence changes in the law, limit womens' rights, justify hatred of gays etc. etc. And then it tries to become government, and that's when it gets highly dangerous.

Just as the secular population tries to do. [justifying sin in every way]

Scientology is only a religion for tax purposes.

religion doesn't try to become government, that's highly false.

And the separation of church and state doesn't mean that someone can't use their faith to influence their political ideals and actions.

A Christian president might find it appropriate to make sure that the poor are taken care of through perhaps let's say welfare, and they find it appropriate because their faith tells them that they should. Nothing there is wrong.]

Now, if said Christian president tried to endorse the church or any other religion then that would be crossing the line so to speak.

Scientology is vastly criminal, banning it should just be the first step.

Better yet take away the money from them and do them for fraud if they try to collect any in the futrue.

Hey, would that be a model for all religions?

Rubbish. I love "sinning" but I neither try to influence others to do the same nor influence laws which would limit the freedoms of other individuals.

You are free to pray. I support that right. Leave me free to "sin" provided I don't hurt others.

What the fundamental difference between scientology and just about any religion?

What the fundamental difference between scientology and just about any religion?
That socialist people will attack Scientology due to financial practices contrary to socialism while defending christianity because jesus was a commie and defending islam because of the naive, doctrinal belief that all cultures/religions are equal.

Uh... I guess I'll ask the question again, "What the fundamental difference between scientology and just about any religion?"

Good it is after all a criminal cult, not a religion.

E-meters. None of the other religions have physical tools to measure (scientifically or unscientifically) parts of the belief system.

Any ideology you can enter but cannot exit is a cult. Calling an ideology "religion" may invest it with a certain gravitas in people's minds, but the central issue has to do with freedom of choice.

Scientology may not support killing apostates like Islam does, but the extent to which they try to ruin people's lives if they leave is so well documented as to be a given.
