New Lords revolt looms over plans to allow police to view everyone's internet browsing history | UK Politics | News | The Independent

Peers are preparing for a fresh showdown with the Government over plans to allow police to examine people’s online browsing histories. They are also concerned that the Government has rejected calls for judges, rather than ministers, to issue eavesdropping warrants. The moves, which come days after the House of Lords torpedoed George Osborne’s tax credit plans, reflect growing anxiety over the impact of a wide-ranging surveillance Bill to be published next week.

I thought the Queen disbanded the House of Lords, years ago?

No idea where one would get that idea.

That is a story so fantastical, Tolkien never lived long enough to write it.

Hell, I can't remember. It's been, I think, about ten or fifteen years ago or so. As you can tell, I haven't kept up with it. I do know that they were talking about replacing the hereditary House of Lords with an elected Senate, back in 2010, I think. Well, that may be way off as well.

No disrespect intended. I seriously thought it either had or was going to happen.

It was a serious question. But, I've learned my lesson when it comes to asking you guys about Queen and Country, or in your case Queen and Commonwealth.

No worries bud, just making a funny out of a misunderstanding.

I wish it would, either abolished or properly reformed, it's a joke.

Not just in the UK, but in Canada too.

A bunch of appointed, un-elected folk in the "Canadian Senate" blocking legislation from the House of Commons, the House of the elected people... it's shocking.

Don't get me wrong, met a few Senators in my time, nice folk in there, but they should not be doing what they do.

Much like the House of Lords.

But alas, by the very nature of their institution, for real reform (this has very specific criteria in this case), it takes a constitutional amendment, which requires 2/3rds of the provinces to sign onto.

Every Prime Minister in recent history has campaigned to reform the senate and failed.

No worries here either. I was making a funny back. Snark is sneaky in print. :2wave:

The English Government as well as the American one, already spy on all citizens. I thought everyone knew this since Edward Snowden spilled the beans.

...

Wow. House of Lords is still present in Parliament. It should be abolished though, along with the monarchy.
