Re: Ukraine Launches Major offensive against Pro Russian Separatists - 2[W:308]
I don't know what is the ratio of Ukrainian troops and the rebels, but in general Ukrainian troops faced more looses during all this time.On the other hand, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Ukraine has suffered heavy losses in rebel counterattacks today:
Ukraine Suffers Heavy Losses in Counterattack by Pro-Russia Rebels - WSJ
Also, the convey supposedly containing humanitarian aid has entered Ukraine and is heading towards Luhansk. According to reports, some 134 trucks have crossed the border but only 34 of them were inspected by the Red Cross. Who knows what is in the other 100? If fears that they contain arms and combat troops are accurate, Luhansk might be able to fight back.
Sorry, I'm not finding the link where I just read that only 34 of the trucks had been inspected. I swear I did read it. On the other hand the fact that the convoy is in the move inside Ukraine is all over the news from multiple sources, and also all over the news is the fact that the Red Cross is not escorting the convoy, citing not enough security reassurances were given to their people.
Ukraine Says Russia Has Invaded It With Huge White Trucks
Anyway, even if I can't find the piece of info that only 34 trucks had been inspected, with no Red Cross oversight there's just no telling what is in these trucks. Journalists say stuff is rattling inside the trucks suggesting they are not full to the brink which if they had food and stuff would be expected (I don't know, maybe there is too much being read into it).
Although I have no bases to know any of this for sure, of course, I kind of think that the convoy having real weapons and combatants inside is sort of unlikely because Russia wouldn't want its hand to be easily exposed. I think more likely Russia is betting on the convoy being attacked, which would then give them the perfect excuse for a full blown invasion. Apparently that's exactly what Kiev is thinking because in the link above, Kiev officials are saying they won't attack the convoy for this exact reason, not to give Russia any pretext.
