Turkish PM views democracy as ‘bus ride,’ says Jordanian King Abdullah

Erdoğan is merely promoting a softer version of Islamism, the king told the Atlantic magazine in an interview. “Erdoğan once said that democracy, for him, is a bus ride,” King Abdullah said. “‘Once I get to my stop, I’m getting off,’ [Erdoğan said].” King Abdullah paid a two-day official visit to Turkey earlier this month, where he shed tears as he visited Anıtkabir, the mausoleum dedicated to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of modern Turkey.

MIDEAST - Turkish PM views democracy as

According to Democracy Ranking, Turkey is ranked 65 between 2007-2011, 3 places lower. ( http://www.democracyranking.org/downloads/2012/Scores_of_the_Democracy-Ranking-2012.htm )

According to RSF, Turkey is ranked 148 2011/2012, 10 places lower. ( Press Freedom Index 2011-2012 - Reporters Without Borders )

According to Mr. Erdoğan, he said in 1990s that the democracy is a tool and not a goal; in the interwiev with Wsj in 2010; He answered a question about that, and his reply was that I still think the same.

The Nazis used the same approach to gain power in Germany. Islamists at the time alligned themselves with the Nazis.

Is it any wonder that they learned a thing or two from their association?

i agree with you, especially they gianed power via propaganda like Erdoğan does.

A king either misrepresented Erd or flat-out threw him under the bus, and then cried at Superturks's grave. What kind of guest is that?

That king needs to get on the bus.

I just hope for the sake of people like you and Medusa that his tenure is short lived, and your country can return to more of a Kemalist type government.

I join you in that hope.

Why is this in the Europe subforum... Turkey is not in Europe and this is a matter that strictly concerns Turkey.

Part of Turkey's in Europe, and they're two faced like the rest of us Europeans

Anyways, pm the mod if you think a post or thread doesn't belong. This will get you nowhere other than a mod telling you to use the proper channels.

...Thank you for your sincere wish.

People have some habits to anything they face or challenge; Some people learn in hard way, which is to live through and then learn; on the other hand, some people learn in easy way, which is to think through or learn by other experiences; in the case of Turkey; 50% of Turkish voters, Erdoğan's followers, want to learn in hard way; so we have to wait till they learn there is nothing but more pain coming for them as in Egypt or Iraq.

ps: Rainman, get over it!
