Thread: British Man Sets Himself On Fire [W:31]

A 48-year-old job-seeker in Birmingham, UK, tied himself to the railings outside the Selly Oak job center this morning and set himself on fire, the Birmingham Mail reported.
“I think it was something to do with a payment he had not received,” an eyewitness told the Birmingham Mail. “He would have to have been very desperate to have done something like that.”

Very sad, reminds me of that tunisian fruit vender who set himself on fire, which seemed to be one of the main catalyist's That sparked Tunisia's revolution.

Life sucks for everyone - everyone's struggling. . . I have 0 compassion for suiciders who leave everyone else to struggle on thinking that they had it worse and their life was ****tier.

Kind of a cruel thing to say, do you have any idea how wrecked a person must be to commit suicide?

I sure do. Other than euthanasia per health issues it's it's not like their life was any more ****ed up than someone else's life. . . they just thought it was.

Suicide is a right - but I'm not going to feel bad for someone who bowed out of the difficulties only to pass their burdens onto someone else like their spouse or children. I'll keep my heart to the living who are willing to suffer through it all, and whose lives are made more difficult because of said suicide.

Desperation among the British is an interesting phenomenon to observe. They were once so mighty. Now they aren't mighty at all. They are kind of sad.

The occasional suicide doesn't reflect on the nation itself at all.

However sappy I think it is - it's just part of humanity and life itself.

They don't have to be wrecked, they just have to be self absorbed, and delusional about how 'bad' things really are.

The guy was very likely disabled, and had had his disability living allowance cut. Instead of jailing bankers, our "austerity" government has targeted the poorest, and employed a dodgy firm (owned by a pal of the PM) to reassess the fitness of benefit claimants. These claimants have initially been assessed by an independent medical panel as to their ability to work, and a supplement to help them with the extra living costs incurred by them in living an independent life has been awarded.
The "review" is a questionnaire administered by a recently jobless recruit on minimum wage. Said dodgy firm is paid per claimant removed from the scheme. Guess how that's working out? As mentioned in the article, Jobcentre staff have had to be given special training to respond to the rise in suicidal talk among clients. It's desperately sad.

I wonder if the rate of suicide is increasing among the British?
