$7 gallon gas to meet Obama's targets for emissions?

Of this there can be no question. The arguement is how we get there.

Do whatever is necessary to reduce our consumption of oil.

Except no one wants to do any of those things. Everyone wants to get to heaven but no one wants to do what it takes to get there.

Exactly. That's reason #492 to get off of oil.

Frankly, seeing the mullahs **** bricks when their undiversified economy begins to fail will bring a smile to my face :) .
They're smarter than you think. The Saudis have been buying up US debt and their economy is starting to branch out into high-tech applications as well. They arent as solely dependent on oil as they were.

Not!! We do not want to bite of our noses to spite our face. And that is what the Libs would have us do.

Do you, like, TRY to be this crazy or does it just come naturally?

Where do you suggest we supplement our supply of crude?

Where do you suggest that by doubling + the price we pay for our fuel will result in some miraculous substitute for oil?

Considering I never said anything like that....

What does that mean? I've already shown two sources where there are real changes being made in order to develop alternative sources of energy that are potential substitutes. This sort of change won't happen in 6 months or even 2 years, it'll take time.

Saudi Arabia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

They're still dependent on oil and only now are beginning to do any real development. Most of the people that go to work there are low-skilled and their high-skilled workers are still drawn from abroad. This isn't a recipe for building some sort of Silicon Valley clone.

wtf are you talking about? It's not about the "libs", it's about doing what's a good and honest thing. Oil is screwing us over. If the two political aisles are actually agreeing on something for a change, then all the better.

and what about those who can't buy these vehicles because gas is so high? :doh

The same thing those who can't afford to buy gas at $4 did: Public transportation. Besides, at $7 bucks a gallon, efficiency will inevitably fly through the roof. Sure it costs $7 a gallon, but when you can go 50 miles on it, you're better off.

Allow me to enlighten you :)

I didn't watch the whole thing. How is it related to nuclear plant costs? Outside of pebble bed and theoretical thorium reactors, the run of the mill fission plant generally costs in excess of $2 billion.

Yes, changes are being made as I'm typing this. In 10 years, it's entirely likely that there will be a whole new generation of electric cars.

Hell, in four years there will be a new generation of electric cars.

If any of you think that by giving the Federal Government huge, obscene sums of gas tax money to develop economical forms of alternative energy, you are deluded beyond belief.

Like how we did for the Manhattan project?

Oh wait. :2wave:

Here's some advice: Try thinking before posting.

Great post, Penguin. :)

What people do not realize is that this administration will push statism/socialism as far and as fast as they think the gullible rank and file liberals will buy it. That goes for the 'centrists' and the 'moderates' as well.

That is politically obvious. However, what is also obvious, even to those who are moderates or centrists, is that Obama does not have nearly enough political capital to do so.

Look around you. There are too many slobbering idiots with the ability to vote that are convinced we can wave a magic wand and summon more oil. Do you know there are people out there that think we will NEVER run out of oil and that "peak oil" is just some made up way of "artificially inflating the oil prices"?

I never said Saudi Arabia would be the next Silicone Valley, just that they arent AS dependent on crude as we like to think they are. People cackle all the time about being able to crush nuts by reducing our demand for oil but the Saudis are not stupid, they realize as much as we do they have a finite resource that WILL be gone.

I'm not claiming they're bounding ahead into the future, but they're taking some big steps to diversify and it's a serious mistake to think we've got all this power.

Even those in areas that have no public transportation or are we concerned only with the urban areas?

It will? Immediatley? Or will it take several years for the 1st supper efficient roller skates to come to market?

.....Look around you. There are too many slobbering idiots, with the ability to vote, that are convinced we can wave a magic wand and summon some miraculous form of alternative affordable energy that would replace oil AND that we need never even attempt to recover the petro resources that the libs and their so called centrist allies now prohibit us from doing. ......

This is what you should have said Hoplite!

Absolutely Rev. The urban areas are the only places that keep these statists in power. They need to be paid back!

Lol i dunno. If i was poor and was forced to use the bus to pickup my 4 kids from school due to some arbitrary tax and 7 dolla gas. Id be pissed. Lol

You'd think they would be but they keep voting for the ones that keep them dumbed down, disallow education alternatives that would help elevate their kids out of the cycle and threaten to drag the rest of us down into the pit with them.

It seems that a majority of Obama's policies work only in theory and not in practice.

No. Watch the whole thing :) . Trust me, it's good.

Is that what you meant by your previous remark? I got out of it that people weren't willing to make changes in order to have a more sustainable future.

Ah, you didn't make that very clear in your post :) .

But as I've pointed out, even though SA might try to diversify, they're doing, so far, a fairly poor job. When oil ends, they're kinda up a creek and no gas to put in the outboard motor.

I wasn't aware that rural areas are dependently entirely upon gasoline. Perhaps you could prove this.

It will? Immediatley? Or will it take several years for the 1st supper efficient roller skates to come to market?

Aren't you impatient? Nothing ever good came easily or quickly. Perhaps you want the government to make it fast? :2wave:

And in that sense, Saudi Arabia becomes more dangerous. Remember 15 of the 19 hijackers were from our dear "friend" Saudi Arabia. Imagine what happens when there's no oil money to placate the masses. Weak education, rampant radical Islam, lots of young people with no jobs. This won't go well.
