When a Paradigm Becomes a Prison

AGW is also an observed phenomenon. Y'all just don't want to accept what's happening right in front of your faces.

Oh, wait - y'all are so doggone sure that (pick one):

1 - it ain't happening
2 - it's happening but there's nothing that can ever be done about it
3 - it's happening but humans have little or nothing to do with it
4 - the world's actually cooling
5 - it's a hoax, a conspiracy among most of the world's scientists to bring us to a socialist paradise
6 - it's a hoax, a conspiracy among the world's (or just America's) leftists to bring us to a socialist paradise

I could probably list more, but I have heard every one of those excuses just on DP...meaning that y'all can't make up your mind what y'all believe...so y'all choose to believe something, anything at all...as long as it isn't AGW. But of course if the right-wing powers-that-be suddenly changed their minds and decided that yeah, it really does exist, y'all would obediently fall in line to do something about it...sorta like most of y'all really didn't like Trump, but most of y'all obediently fell in line to back him up as the months wound down.

This is the same confusion. Temperature change is an observed phenomenon. AGW is a theory put forward to explain the phenomenon. No one debates the phenomenon; anyone can debate the theory.

There's no political figure, right or left, whose views would influence this discussion.

I've noticed no upsurge in support for Trump.

Personally, I like the argument that temperature records are unreliable and we cant really know if its warming, followed by emphatic posts about how it was warmer in the past, as you can clearly see from temperature records.

Or how there is no scientific consensus, but contrarian scientists are dissenting heros.

You can read about the absolutely gobsmacking philosopical roots of this insanity here - you'll recongnize quite a few of the kooky arguments.

I can only speak for myself.

I would add.

7. We're not exactly sure what's happening and why.
8.The overwhelming majority of scientists in the field are liberals and as such have political motivations. I don't trust such people.
9. If one accepts the AGW theory, any meaningful solution would require a worldwide solution which would by necessity create higher energy prices. Cooperation at best would be highly improbable, and more likely pie in the sky.

7) I will pretend that we dont understand this phenomena because:
8) Librul conspiracy!
9) And I dont like the solutions, so its much easier to pretend there is no problem.

Tsk tsk. Debating with yourself again.

We don't . I know certain people know it all and it's all settled,(smirk) but some of idiots have a few questions still.

Little did I realize that in moving to Houston, Texas I would soon witness a rare climatic event. It was not another hurricane like Ike, snow in summer, nor any other such rarity. I would be able to attend a climate debate in a welcoming and civil atmosphere between two opposing debaters well qualified in their particular fields of climate research. Such open debates are a rarity in the current emotionally defined microcosm of consensus science and settled science. The PC thought police, including at the James A. Baker III Institute under gatekeeper Neal Lane, were conspicuously absent.

Rice University’s Federalist Society sponsored a program titled “A Heated Debate: A Discussion on the Science and Policy of Climate Change” on campus Wednesday, October 19, 2016. The featured speakers were Dr. Willie Soon and Professor Ronald Sass. A video of the presentations, including rebuttals and questions from the audience has been posted on the Federalist website: RICE UNIVERSITY FEDERALIST SOCIETY? - Climate Change Splash. . . .

Some get trapped in a recurrent denial loop.

Your denial is that most who you call deniers, are following the scientific method, and being skeptical.

It is the likes of you who are stuck in the loop.

I FON'T UNDERSTAND THE point of the this thread lol,..
