Randall Munroe, the creator of the great comic XKCD has a fantastic timeline that illustrates how many of the denier arguments you hear are absolutely nonsensical.

Worth reading and scrolling through.

I saw that. Beautiful, and sad. You and I both know how this thread is going to turn out, but maybe, someone, somewhere out there will finally pause and consider what we are doing to our one planet, our one home.

As I've said elsewhere, this is past public debate. We know that UK studies have already indicated that we will have a serious, possibly civilization-ending food shortage by 2040 if we don't change our ways, and studies in the US for NASA have also indicated basically the same situation. I was more complacent about global warming the past 10 years because I was hopeful that we would have more time to slowly address the issue, but over the past year or two, it's become clear that all evidence points to us living in the worst-of-the-worst models for catastrophic climate change. The oceans are now full-up on how much carbon they can take out of the atmosphere, which buffered a lot of the temperature increase, and we will start to experience significant aspects of global warming by the 2030's, which is just a decade and a half away. I don't know what the current numbers are for when we'll hit the game-ending number of 4.5 C globally averaged temperature increase, but it's a hell of a lot sooner than anyone expected.

This needs to become one of the chief issues of the 2016 election, and the shift towards sustainable energy and nuclear energy needs to start going into effect, now.

It won't be an issue in the election!

One side refuses to believe it, and the other side knows people will bail from voting if they are forced to recognize reality.

We will slowly plod to a solution, with hope that some kind of Hail Mary will salvage us.

Meanwhile, the Sixth Extinction will accelerate unabated.

Lol, I love the smell of Chicken Little of an evening.

Plants grow better at 3-4x the levels of carbon we currently have in the atmosphere. It's why they pump it into greenhouses so plants will be growing more optimally. Why would there be a food shortage?

It will only if people continue to ignore the issue or pretend like it cannot be solved. We still live in a democracy. That has implications, and with enough pressure, anything can be done. Telling people that nothing can change or that things can only be changed with slow, eventual gradualism is the same load of crap that Civil Rights activists and similar social movements faced. The answer has always been to give an unending amount of civil and democratic resistance until the issue is addressed reasonably over time.

This is trivial, Fishking, and anyone who's even badly informed about this issue can tell you why. So if you want to know the answer to your question, then try googling it yourself and learning to educate yourself.

Again, with such little understanding, this highlights why there's no reason whatsoever to debate the anti-AGW crowd.

No answer, then. Gotcha.

Typical alarmist innumeracy.

1IAU is equal to 20,000 years. Or 86 years or 50,000 years all on the same axis. No trouble in the mind of those who have suspended disbelief.

I saw that. Beautiful, and sad. You and I both know how this thread is going to turn out, but maybe, someone, somewhere out there will finally pause and consider what we are doing to our one planet, our one home.

Currently we are killing between 200 thousand people per year to more than 20 million people per year by following this western guilt complex drivel.

What abject drivel.

If the GW crowd could actually prove their case, then things might be different in means of public support.

Until then...........

Try again. IAU is a measurement of temperature, not time.

OK, so it's just drivel in terms of how much warming is predicted at the highest estimates of the IPCC's range which of course we are nowhere near at all. OK got it.

Actually, your innumeracy is showing again.

Funny how you can't grasp a simple comic.

Thanks for your expert opinion based upon magical thinking.

Always helpful.

I get my estimates from the WG1 IPCC report. Where do you and XKCD get yours?

That makes TWO cartoonists that 3G uses as valid references.

You have to love the cartoon too. It is literally a version of the "1) Wake up 2) Drink Coffee 3) ??? 4) Profit" model of dimwittery.

Nothing in the last 150 years indicates that another 86 years will yield 400+% more warming... not even the IPCC supports this conclusion!

Prove both accusations. BTW, that is one hell of a wide interval on your numbers.

As I told him, his low estimate is a guess from Mithrae, his high estimate is a guess from him, but my guess is zero, so his range really should be zero to 20 million.

But innumeracy is his strong point.
