EPA Moves Against Auto Racing

Thanks for posting this Jack. Hadn't had time to do it myself.

The EPA is an evil bureaucratic nightmare, hell bent on pushing a social justice agenda via regulatory fiat. The consent of the people be damned. This is a foundational tenant of Socialist Progressvism, the control of people through professional bureaucrats who are not caught up in the ebb and flow of elected office.

Not content to change the way local citizens decide how to live (See the EPA's Environmental Justice Initiative) they seek to place another cut into the collective body of citizens and their right to own personal vehicles. It is their mission to eventually outlaw all forms of transportation other than the mass transit kind.

Billions of dollars of economic activity threatened, and tens of thousands of jobs lost, if the EPA is allowed to carry out their above the citizenry mandates. Any wonder why is it so important to place massive cuts to their budget

Greetings, ocean515. :2wave:

Interesting that they want to interfere in auto racing! I would suggest that their time would be better spent by concentrating on the massive ecological damage they caused to the Animus River in Colorado, which turned the river orange, killing all plant and wildlife in the area! Saying OOPS isn't enough to satisfy public opinion this time, since the ecological damage is massive and doubtless long-lasting! What do the letters EPA stand for anyway?

How about Road & Track's thoughts?

No, the EPA Didn't Just Outlaw Your Race Car

FAIL

From the article:

But as it stands right now, we don't know enough about the EPA's proposal to make broad-reaching conclusions about what it means for current or future racers

Hmmm....google search....first hit....

I'm a R&T subscriber, and I'm taken aback by the conclusion in their article head which ignores their claim later in the article.

First, the EPA is no friend to any personal motor vehicle. If allowed, they would ban their use. Why post a clarification of a regulation that has been on the books for years? Well, even the EPA knows they can't pass new regulations, or change them without first posting intent, and then opening up their plans for public comment.

What SEMA clearly knows more about than the author of this article you posted is the ramifications of such "clarification". For example, the EPA has never focused on results. Meaning, if the end game is pollution reduction, or even meeting current standards, why do they care how that is achieved? What they are doing is making it illegal to touch a motor vehicles pollution control equipment, regardless of the outcome. This means special intake systems, or exhaust systems can't be touched, period. Special computer adjustments can't be made, regardless of the outcome.

They are seeking to lock down a private citizens right to do anything to their private vehicles that involves touching anything related to the certified control systems, REGARDLESS OF THE IMPACT on the levels of gases being exhausted from the vehicle.

This isn't outcome based regulation, this is content based regulation, and it's an attempt to control more and more of a persons choice.

How very Progressive of the EPA.

The EPA needs to be cut to 1/5th it's size, and returned to it's original mandate.

EPA = Everything Protected Always

The EPA has a role. It's original intent was reasonable. It has morphed into something else, and it needs to be stopped.

Our EPA priesthood has decided auto racing and motorsports are a threat to the planet. The idiocy just keeps on comin' . . .

[h=1]The EPA is out of control – now they want to ban hobby race cars[/h] The EPA is seeking to ban the freedom of individuals within the USA to convert street cars into race cars. WUWT reader Wolfpack987 writes: Another example of government abuse of power, the EPA is seeking to remove more freedoms from American citizens in the name of the environment, by prohibiting the act of converting street cars…

If the EPA really wanted to reduce CO2 pollution, they would tax CO2 output. Add $ 30 to the price of a gallon of gas and most folks would puff less CO2 through their exhausts. It would not attract voters, Though.

One could say the same today of the whole environmental movement. It has gone from being pro Earth to anti human in just a few short decades :(

Hah, no argument there!

I see the EPA similar to the police: necessary to society, but we sure don't like it when they take an interest in us.

And one does want them to do the job rationally. If they want to reduce CO2, they should do so using efficient and meaningful tools like a CO2 cap and trade or tax. Mucking about with micro-measures is absurd.

If that is what the EPA views as a danger to the planet then I think there are too many of them. Let's at least cut the EPA staff in half and they won't have the time to deal with nonsense like this. Why not get rid of private aviation? It certainly burns more fuel than race cars. Or perhaps diesel powered trucks with their dirty emissions would be a more effective target. Why not just go back to an energyless planet. We could move everyone to the equator and put an end to heating fuels.

How many racers have been destroyed?
