As of 1515 on 23 January, still blizzard white-out snowfall.
Then after they run around..."we got off lucky, hurray!"..over and over and over again.
We need to demand better out of our experts and government than being fed lies.
Oh, look....you were wrong.
People were warned, so they were ready.
Good thing the government warned everyone.
Yep, and I am pretty happy with how this played out. Blasio unlike Bloomberg did not shut down the city till he saw enough snow to justify it, for instance. I also wonder if DC Metro is using this time to get some work done in the tunnels...this system has tons of deferred maintenance that they trying to catch up on and a two day closure is a great chance to get some of it done.
BUT, we have got to not close down cities except in extreme cases because the economic costs are huge. We have to stop lying to the citizens. And we have to be once again the can do nation.
And I dont mind too much being wrong, testing our understanding is a great practice. Also I generally dont mind failing so long as it does not happen too often and so long as I dont repeat past mistakes....in life I long ago learned to work without a net, and once I got used to it I came to prefer it.
You got all pissed off, said stupid things and looked foolish.
Told you so.
Don't be a sore winner.
As of 1800 on 23 January wind is down but snow continues.
I feel for you guys. 30" of heavy, wet snow just plain sucks and unless you've got space on both sides of your driveway to throw it you're pretty much screwed.
Snow is one thing, but the wind is what is making it crazy. 18 inches of snow can create some big drifts with enough wind. Our covered and walled balcony is buried.
Greetings, BrewerBob. :2wave:
I wonder how much influence the Full Moon on Jan 23 had with the large amount of snow and windy conditions this storm brought to the East Coast in such a short period of time?
Significant influence on tides.
Significant influence on tides.
The moon certainly affects the tide by why would it being full or not matter? It has the same gravitational influence regardless of how much light is bouncing off of it, right?

Whenever the Moon, Earth and Sun are aligned, the gravitational pull of the sun adds to that of the moon causing maximum tides. Spring tides happen when the sun and moon are on the same side of the earth (New Moon) or when the sun and moon are on opposite sides of the earth (Full Moon).
The Moon And Tides
The moons orbit is elliptical and so is the earths around the sun. The sun-earth-moon alignment changes the tides. Also not in the same plane. Then there is the obliquity of the earth too. Full moon and new moon are among the strongest tides because the earth-moon-sun are in alignment. The earths orbit is closest to the sun in January, and farthest in July. All these factors are why tide intensities change.
Did I miss anything?
