Here Comes DC's Blizzard!

Blah blah blah...politicizing the weather?

Yep

Realistically, our winter weather expert Wes Junker thinks we should shave off about 25 percent off these totals, reminding us the model has a high bias.

Ya know what, rather than trying to scare us little people into compliance with their desire that we close down civilization on account of the weather I would rather the "experts" and government stuck to telling us the truth. Is the truth really too much to ask out of people who are supposed to be serving us, people who in may cases we pay for?

Apparently it is, which is the main reason so many died in New Orleans, too many previous cases of the people being lied to by power, so many people figured that the Katrina warnings were yet more lies.

So what? Please...tell me how to predict the weather 100%.

BTW, the NOAA weather sats were the ones that predicted this storm....OMG! We gotta ignore it..its a gubmit run weather satellite! Do you think its some kind of evil conspiracy?

Better to be over prepared and safe than under prepared and and in danger. Let the grown ups run this, you can watch it from the opposite side of the country.

.

Look at the quote again....a pro is telling us that they jack the numbers up 25% from what they really think will happen, that is lying, that is not a prediction error.

Then after they run around..."we got off lucky, hurray!"..over and over and over again.

We need to demand better out of our experts and government than being fed lies.

You are whining and are angry about the weather, that's not healthy. Seriously...you are wasting angst.

BTW, turn on your TV, DC is being hammered now..and the nasty stuff has yet to hit. So.. you really are wasting your anger.

I have been around the block a few times...... a weather dude at 9:30 pm volunteers that the prediction was jacked up by 25% says to me that he is looking at what ever it is that he looks at and knows that the "predictions" were not even close, so he is trying to get in front of it, like any good crisis manager would tell him to do.

Can I prove this?

No

Am I certain?

No

Am I right?

Likely, because I got myself educated which allows me to be right a high percentage of the time.

Now we wait for the results to tell me whether I am right or wrong

Right/wrong is the knife cut that counts.

EDIT: I am going to follow the master , Mr Donald J TRump, here and say "hell yes I am angry, lies and incompetence tends to piss me off, and it should piss you off too".

WE DESERVE BETTER!

So what? You are wasting your life being angry about this.

Get a hobby.

My solution is to VOTE TRUMP. I am tired of being a candy assed country that does not try.

If the nation’s second-busiest subway had stayed open for the convenience of a relatively small number of weekend riders, Chairman Mortimer L. Downey said, the odds of full service being available Monday would have been considerably reduced.

And with hundreds of thousands of commuters possibly returning to work Monday morning, depending on post-storm conditions, Metro chose the lesser of two evils.

“I know some people will be put in a difficult situation,” Downey said, referring to essential employees such as hospital and public-safety personnel, as well as others who must get to their jobs on weekends, including hotel workers.

Ya think ya suck so you gave up, tell the truth. And Metro does suck, way too many years of under funding and bad management does that. Hopefully no one embarrises them by looking back into history at all the times they were able to keep running and the snow amounts, and then looks at what they shut down for this time. NYC also tends to throw in the towel before the storms even start these days, do Conservative cities give up that easy?

Enquiring minds would like to know.

That has nothing to do with anything. What will you do when Trump doesn't agree with you 100% on something?

It will be hilarious...but, he ain't getting elected anyway...

I spot Slivovice. Looks like it needs to be opened.
It's been opened and tasted except the Jagermeister. It's OK, don't care for the plum brandy so much.

They have all been opened unless I have more than one. The Parker's 8th Heritage edition, 13 yr Wheat, cost me $80. One of those one time release things. Who knows how much it would be worth today if I didn't open it to a collector.

Then you bought the wrong Slivovice.

Really?

Do you think everyone should like it? Even those of us who don't care much for brandy to begin with?

That would be boring if everyone's taste was the same.

This is from the guy over at Slate who does those constant climate change histrionics...He is a certified meteorologist if you can believe that.

11:30 p.m. ET: Overnight weather models are in, and once again, they're showing the storm pushing further north than previously expected. This trend, as well as the storm's stronger-than-expected showing so far—parts of the DC area already have 10 inches!—have prompted the NWS forecasters in New York City to go all-in.

Here's what I'm thinking for the rest of the storm: For DC, an additional 15-20 inches—which would challenge the city's all-time snowfall record. This is a crippling amount of snow, and it will probably take days for the city to get moving again. Baltimore and Philadelphia should also wind up with a 20-25 inch storm total. New York City, which was expecting just 5-10 inches this morning, should now prepare for 18-24, ranking among the city's five worst snowstorms since the Civil War. Tomorrow from 8 a.m. to midnight will be the storm's peak, with heaviest snowfall rates, strongest winds (with gusts up to 50 mph), and most blizzard-y conditions. Don't be afraid to ask your neighbors for help if you're caught off-guard by the sudden boost in the forecast. In my six years in New York City, big snowstorms were an amazing, magical time. Enjoy it, and stay safe

looks like it has stopped snowing for the time being but it still dumped a bit of snow on the ground.
not sure how much you guys will get today though.

Big snow overnight. Still coming down today. Blizzard conditions forecast through noon. Then steady snowfall into the night. Should top out between 20 and 30 inches, as forecast.

Well in a straight line I'm about 160 miles away from you, I have 18 inches on my walkway and it's still coming down! (I'm probably 50 miles north and 150 miles west of you.)

Dig out will be tomorrow. My role is Capital. I have made an arrangement for Labor.

as long as isn't then neighbors kid the police shouldn't care.

yep that is a dig if you know what I am talking about.

Completed final preparations this morning. Dropped off/picked up dry cleaning, and topped up the bourbon supply (Bulleit Bourbon Frontier Whiskey). Cars are under cover with full tanks. All household goods and food supplies set. Contingency items (batteries, fire wood, candles) ready. As was said on ice planet Hoth: "Outer doors are closed."
Good luck Jack and all who will be affected. Stay safe!!!

I'll be traveling to Ukraine this coming Wednesday. Plenty of snow and cold on the steppes

There is also an ongoing flu outbreak in Russia and Eastern Europe atm.

Try some Becherovka, it will keep ya warm.

Some people laugh at 30 inches you know. I've had more than that before, overnight, when I lived east of the cascades. But then, we always had at least a foot or so each year.

Snow is one thing, but the wind is what is making it crazy. 18 inches of snow can create some big drifts with enough wind. Our covered and walled balcony is buried.
