New Solar panel plant

I would suggest that if the government is going to continue to subsidize green energy, that the onl subsidize "Made in the USA" products.

That would be nice, but is it legal under WTO treaty rules?

I think it is a big plus for the City of Buffalo. Solar is Global Warming mitigation and will replace fossil fuel energy that is hugely subsidized and causes massive unseen environmental damage. In the recent past, Buffalo was a dirty industrial City. It is much cleaner today. Healthier. Lake Erie is cleaner. The Solar City project is not just politics, but a harbinger of the future. I personally prefer individual committment to Renewable Energy with an end result of each homeowner being his own utility company. Distributed Generation is the technical description, instead of Centralized Distribution of Energy. Solar City falls in between and is a compromise with long term environmental benefits. It is the same as the windmill projects with lots of subsidization to get started and then they're on their own. I would prefer that each home have it own windmill but recognize that some compromise is necessary. The environmental issue is the real story behind the politics and banking. These are the areas of industry that the old line Energy monopolists have been fighting against for years. The worm is turning.

meanwhile china opens another coal planet, has electricity prices 1/4th of ours, and continues to outcompete us in every possible way. but, we built a pretty solar plant, shame no one can afford to buy the subsidized electricity it produces :lamo

Oh? A solar panel company once failed? I guess that means they'll all fail then, right? Just like that because some restaurants have failed every restaurant on earth has failed.

I am simply stating that nearly exclusive use of government funds/subsidies can be a major problem. Subsidizing (or investing in) a company with a proven record is vastly different than tossing public cash at "might work" ideas or, worse yet, those that contribute to one's campaign. The SolarCity business plan depends almost exclusively on tax subsides, specifically federal energy tax credits - that is why they lease, rather than sell, their product.

Yep - see Solyndra. ;)
There is a problem with large subsidized operations, Solyndra is a very good example.
Since they got so much free money, it ceased to have value to them,
Solyndra, built a new plant on some of the most expensive real estate around.
Let's hope the same does not happen to Solar City.
I think they may be overstating the job numbers, as I suspect automating the
plant will be the highest priority.

SolarCity is getting about the same amount of tax money as Solyndra did but in the form of outright gifts (tax credits) instead of a loan. Their business model involves a 20 lease deal where they get all of the "green" tax credits but the customer pays the bill. A very slick (but legal?) deal indeed.

Oh, They are the ones who lease peoples roofs?
I have heard that is a bad deal in most cases,(because they cannot control the variables).

Idiotic

1) Musk's " whole home batteries " arent large enough to power a whole home and you cannot run his batteries in a Series-parallel configuration to increase power.

Homes in my neck of the woods need 15-30kw total

2) I live in Houston Tx, lots of year around Sun and seemingly the perfect place to set up a Whole home system.

No one is buying into this crap. All we're being told is beware the Solar Power scams that low life fly by night contractors are trying to push on people.

3) What happens when China inevitably undercuts the cost of manufacturing these things ? One of the reasons Obamas " green jobs " Initaive bit the dust.

Sounds like another tax payer funded get rich scam
