Treat the earth well: it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children. We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children. ~ Ancient American Indian Proverb
Quotes like this and many others from "fiscal conservatives" always remind me of the old adage, "penny wise, pound foolish."
And that's for just one CFL per household.According to the U.S. Department of Energy, lighting in the U.S. accounts for 22% of electricity consumption and costs American’s $58 billion a year. If every American home replaced just one light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb (your everyday energy “efficient” bulb), we would save $600 million per year in energy costs and prevent greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 800,000 cars.

I was discovering that life just simply isn't fair and bask in the unsung glory of knowing that each obstacle overcome along the way only adds to the satisfaction in the end. Nothing great, after all, was ever accomplished by anyone sulking in his or her misery.

Ten million spent by the gov to develop a bulb nobody is going to buy is not penny wise. Private industry will make bulbs that get the most bang for the buck as the technology progresses. Gov on the other hand feels free to squander tax payer dollars on pie in the sky BS which IMO is pound foolish.

Electricity costs aren't a joke nowadays. I'd gladly buy a bucketful of those bulbs to replace all the bulbs in my house if it will conserve the enormous electricity costs. $50 a bulb is puny compared to the costs it will save in utilities in my opinion
And he said to Saint Peter "One more soldier reporting for duty, sir. I served my time in HELL"

I would much rather "my government" spend ten million on something developed in the USA, made in the USA, and designed to save money over the long haul, than have "my government" spend billions and/or trillions on trying to win the hearts and minds of non-Americans in foreign lands.

How tiny is it if 100 million households replace upwards of a dozen, or more, light bulbs with CFL's, and then in 5-10 years they all find their way into landfills?
I know there are some places that are starting a recycle program just for CFL bulbs. Perhaps you could google search for it in your area?
