    IEA's bombshell warning

    IEA

International Energy Agency: “On planned policies, rising fossil energy use will lead to irreversible and potentially catastrophic climate change.”
“… we are on an even more dangerous track to an increase of 6°C [11°F]…. Delaying action is a false economy: for every $1 of investment in cleaner technology that is avoided in the power sector before 2020, an additional $4.30 would need to be spent after 2020 to compensate for the increased emissions.”

The International Energy Agency has issued yet another clarion call for urgent action on climate. Their 2011 World Energy Outlook [WEO] release should end once and for all any notion that delay is the rational course for the nation and the world.
The UK Guardian‘s headline captures the urgency:

World headed for irreversible climate change in five years, IEA warns

If fossil fuel infrastructure is not rapidly changed, the world will ‘lose for ever’ the chance to avoid dangerous climate change.
Not sure if there is much point to posting this on DP since it will probably be flooded by partisan hacks, but I thought it was important given that the IEA doesn't tend to give such dire warnings. The industrialized world needs to get its act together to stave off impending disaster, but something tells me that the spin doctors will obfuscate the issue enough to keep key nations from taking responsibility, all in the name of obscene profits.

The time to act is now.

The time to act was much longer ago than now, but now would be nice! I find myself wondering more and more often if humans are wise enough to survive as a species, at least similarly to how we have lived through much of our history. It appears that our kids and grandchildren may be given the opportunity to find out.

Apparently, not ****ting in our own backyard seems way to complicated and sinister to too many humans.
Treat the earth well: it was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children. We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children. ~ Ancient American Indian Proverb

So switch to nuke power until renewable is capable of replacing it.

International energy agency LMAO. If it starts out with international it is bound to be left wing BS. Kind of like World health organization and like obama getting the peace prize for doing nothing but getting elected.

You make it sound so easy. There are a lot of problems with that, let alone it takes more than 10 years to build a nuclear facility.

YA! Like the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) warning on Iran...

Or the World Trade Organization and it's free trade agenda...

Or the World Bank that champions American "interests" abroad....

    Good point!

Build them a lot faster if the people who made the most noise about renewable energy would quit cock-blocking them.

Uhh, it's the general public that freaks out when the word "nuclear" is involved in anything that is to blame. People have been resisting nuclear power since long before alternatives were even an option.
