Self Defense In School?

Boxing is not really useful for self defense, very ineffective. The whole goal of self-defense is to minimize any injury to yourself while incapacitating or temporarily stopping whoever attacked you. It is also very ineffective against anyone who has any kind of weapon. You want to fight dirty. My self-defense instructor taught always go for the eyes or the crotch, those are places that will cause the most pain and most likely incapacitate them, especially if you go for the eyes. You do not want to have a punching match, you want to win quickly and decisively, you also have to have the strength to do it which someone like me does not have.

Depends. Knowing how to punch correctly is a huge advantage. And understanding head movement and blocks. Boxing requires a slight hands to be properly format towards self defense. That includes adding dirty boxing. ;).

Mix in some wrestling or judo? You have someone who will be a capable fighter. Weapons DO change the equation though.

As I stated to someone the other day: I have a zero tolerance policy for zero tolerance policies. Where I went, you didn't get suspended even if you WERE the aggressor. It was circumstantial. It depend on how old you were. It depended on what started the fight. How bad it was. Why you started it, and why you were involved?

I remember a boy starting a fight because another boy was dragging a girl around by her hair. He got lunch duty (like in school detention but shorter), but no suspension. I wish we could go back to that. Sometimes you don't have a choice but to fight back. And it is the same in our society. That is why we have self defense laws that cover the defender.

yes, we need to go back to that

I dont know. I think a bullet beats the brain every time.

No, you're not thinking. Frequently, a bullet only comes into play because there was no thinking. In certain very limited circumstances a bullet is needed but it doesn't beat a brain.

Have you seen the bumper sticker that says, "The West wasn't Won with a Registered Gun?" It wasn't won by a gun. It was won by Americans who had brains, balls, and a backbone. A hammer didn't build their barns. either.
