Alright, I saw this on the O'Reilly Factor, and I felt it was being misrepresented. Anywho, the deal is Seattle issued this memo in which it explained why some might see Thanksgiving as a time of mourning, as it symbolizes 500 years of betrayal and murder in exchange for assistance and friendship.
Man, I can see it, cause we really ****ed those native americans up. I think it's a completely fair and valid position. I think Thanksgiving is a good holiday not for the historical reference, but for the idea of joining together and appreciating the basic things that are so often taken for granted. But we did really **** up the indians, and I can see being pissed off about it.

How can anyone support such a preposterous statement?

It was war most of the time, and it's historical revisionism to pretend like all indians were peaceful dudes trying to help us, and in exchange we kept killing them, but there are a lot of examples. We tell them they can have land some place, then Andrew Jackson marches them hundreds of miles to unimaginably ****tier land. We give them blankets, hey, how about a little small pox to keep you warm as well! Etc. etc. |

1609 - Plymouth colony + 500 years = 2109
1492 - Columbus discovers North America + 500 years = 1992 (obviously the betrayal ended with Bill Clinton being elected president)
in other words, 500 years of betrayal = B.S. |

"500 years of betrayal & murder" fits template of the modern leftist movement to re-engineer society with white guilt and a general contempt for this nation, it's history & the people who founded it serving as a key inspiration. |

Current Mood: | Re: Seattle: Some See Thanksgiving as a Time of Mourning Thanksgiving really is one of the most misunderstood holidays. It represents thanks, and how white settlers and the natives broke bread. That's an overstatement, if not a ****ing lie. Thanksgiving Holiday Origin Quote:
Thanks to the good will of the Wampanoag, the Puritans not only survived their first year but had an alliance with the Wampanoags that would give them almost two decades of peace. In celebration of their good fortune, the colony's governor, William Bradford, declared a three-day feast after the first harvest of 1621. It later became known as "Thanksgiving", but the
Pilgrims never called it that. The "Indians" who attended were not even invited. The pilgrims only invited Chief Massasoit and it was Massasoit who then invited ninety or more of his "Indian" brothers and sisters to the affair to the chagrin of the indignant Europeans. No turkey, cranberry sauce or pumpkin pie was served, no prayers were offered and the "Indians" were not invited back for any other such meals.
| Quote:
Contrary to popular mythology the Pilgrims were no friends to the local Indigenous People ("Indians").
In about 1636, a force of colonists trapped some seven hundred Pequot Indians near the mouth of the Mystic River. English Captain John Mason attacked the Indian camp with "fire, sword, blunderbuss, and tomahawk." Only a handful escaped and few prisoners were taken. "To see them frying in the fire, and the streams of their blood quenching the same, and the stench was horrible, but the victory seemed a sweet sacrifice to the great delight of the Pilgrims, and they gave praise thereof to God."

Who needs enemies when you got friends like these?
