Yoga Pants - Appropriate?

When I was a kid it was about mini skirts and halter tops. The more things change the more they stay the same.

true and 600 years ago wealthy fit young men wore mini skirts and hose to show off their legs and that is what lots of teen girls to older women do today

Well, men's bodies have more muscle mass than women's naturally, so of course they aren't going to look as thin. ;) No doubt about it, they are THIN though.

Are they girls, or boys?

The photo you see was taken in Boston, likely in one of the nicer neighborhoods, outside a school. When they were inside that school, you have to envision those young ladies without the jackets on. At least four of the six ladies (the one in the middle is a guy) are wearing what appear to be tight leggings/yoga pants. Of those six, only the one on the far left of the photo (in the long jacket) and the one on the far right (who appears to possibly be wearing shorts over them) appear to have any thing else covering their rear ends. The other four all appear to be wearing tops and jackets that do not extend markedly below the waist. You note the photo doesn't show any of them from behind, and I get the feeling there's a reason why.... for at least four of them it appears that may not be a very appropriate angle to view them from.

I don't know about Rochester, but around here (central MA), it semes to me less that the leggings/yoga pants have changed over time than a considerable shortening of the tops/jackets worn by the women. In the past a skirt/sweater/long top was worn over the leggings whereas now more and more of these tops are stopping at or just below the waistline.

I still don't see anything wrong with what these girls are wearing, but okay I'll meet you in the middle and say that I wouldn't have a problem with the school asking that all tops cover the butt. That would take care of both this leggings issue for girls and the habit that some teen boys have of wearing their jeans so low their boxers are showing.

I can understand why you don't see as much wrong as I do. I'm not sure you totally realize what the rear view of that photo probably looks like. I'm also not entirely sure that you understand how men tend to see women who are dressed in the leggings without anything over them. I'll be polite and simply say that it's not very complimentary or positive for the most part. If you need more of a description, think about how most women believe guys at the gym see the girl on the treadmill who's wearing the running tights or yoga pants and you should have a pretty good idea.

I've always been in favor of policies requiring a woman's top to cover her backside if she's not wearing pants or a skirt. I am also in favor of a policy requiring that both men's and women's underwear (expecially bottoms) not be visible.

So? Stop checking out their backsides, and it won't bother you! :2razz:

First one is really questionable.

I'm quite sure (although it's a big fashion secret) that sometimes they will use girls to model boy clothes too, but I think the ones I posted are actually men.

Hell, nearly anything would be appropriate for her to wear. That's a life sized Barbie! Same vacant expression.

I don't think there's anything wrong with how she looks, and I find it funny when people are SO critical of a perfectly decent-looking person; makes one wonder what THAT particular person looks like. I suppose you must be God-like in your appearance in order for YOU to criticize HER appearance.

She looks freaking fantastic which in HS, would be a serious problem.

I doubt many of us are super-human.

Well, he does an awful lot of complaining for someone who apparently is doing an awful lot of leering.

It's very fundamentalist Muslim. Don't dress a certain way, you're making me perv against my will!

I'm sure if certain people had their way, all women would be dressed in burkas. Yay! Fun! :lamo

Obviously my admittedly weak attempt at humor didn't make it. Oh well.

And now for the newest in our stylish line of burkas, comes this fantastic beach burka. Now, you too can look sexy, relaxed and cool at the beach! Tigger approved. :2razz:

Yep. In some Islamic countries, where the women wear burkas, the men get turned on if a woman exposes a lock of hair

It's the damn sluts fault!!

100% in agreement, Maggie. Unfortunately so many of these young people of both genders have nothing that even comes close to a reasonable role model at home to begin with.

sorry man, but you are the LAST person on these boards to be talking about an inappropriate role model
yes, your American taliban ethic is the opposite of the tolerant role model, of whom you would reject, but - based on your intolerant posts - for you to use the expression 'role model' as if you have a sense of what that means to the average person, is beyond laughable

I don't really care much, just make the rules consistent and common-sense and then enforce them impartially.

When I was in school, I always wondered why cheerleaders got a pass on short skirts that would have been gigged on anyone else, then were allowed to flip them up and show their underwear when performing, which would have gotten any other girl suspended. :lamo

They are called lollipop panties! The are more like briefs than panties, at least that's what we used to wear, and probably conceal more than some bathing suits.

I know. It's just that the skirts were shorter than regulation (in my day) AND any other girl flipping her skirt up would have gotten suspended, even IF she were wearing briefs underneath.... inconsistency bothers me.

And don't EVEN get me started on the whole "powder puff cheerleaders" thing... I cringed over that...

well since you brought it up let me get you started on it.

Hey pep rallies happen! :lamo

I loved the powder puff games! So fun and silly!

We had a cheer, where we would chant, "We're number 1, you're number 2, and we're gonna beat the WHOOPIE out of you!" And then we'd turn around and lift our skirts to the opposing team. That only happened one time though, and I think our coaches got in trouble for it. That was for Pop Warner though, and our coaches were high school cheerleaders, so they had us doing some pretty uninhibited things.

Lol! We only got to do our welcome cheer once too. It was to this song.

This version of the song is much better, IMO.
