Yoga Pants - Appropriate?

Of course I think yoga pants look amazing on the right women, but to be honest I'm tired of seeing women running around in every day life with skin tight yoga pants on. It leaves little to the imagination, and if I had a daughter I wouldn't let her wear them out til she was out of my house. I don't think people should have to dress formal every where they go, and I wouldn't ever judge a girl for wearing them, but I think if you're going some where you should put alittle more thought into your appearance than just throwing on yoga pants and a tight top. It's too much. If you just got done working out and are swinging by somewhere then it's more understandable.

I see your point, but that isn't how these high school girls are dressing in freaking Massachusetts. At least not in the winter.

You might be very surprised at how some of the women (young and older) in Massachusetts dress at this time of year.

95% of women and girls look better with a skirt or long tunic over those stretch leggings. You have to have a perfect butt and upper thigh area to look better with the leggings alone.

Meh. I don't much care what people think of my choice of clothing. I travel a heck of a lot and yoga pants are the most comfortable thing to wear on a plane and to run around airports. Not to mention going thru security checks. They even look good with a fancy top that covers the butt for more formal occasions. It really comes down to how you put the outfit together.

true-sort of hard to conceal a weapon onto an airplane dressed in stretch leggings.

Honestly, I don't think anorexia has ever been "in" with guys, TGND. I honestly don't know a single guy who likes the stick-figure girls. Men tend to like curves on a woman. We like a woman who takes care of herself and is confident with/in her body. I dated one "stick-figure" girl in college and every time I hugged her, I swear I thought I was going to snap her in half like a toothpick. That's not sexy or arousing so far as I (and all the guys I know) am concerned.

Agreed.

Apparently, some men have a skewed idea of what women are supposed to look like.... I guess anorexic is in again. :-/

The only real place that anorexia is "in" are in fashion magazines and the like, which isn't very often run by men, and almost never by straight men. I'd say women are more guilty of imposing these standards on other women more so than men doing it.

With the top covered I an understand it, but I can't even begin to describe the amount of camel toe I have seen out and about over the past few years.

And BTW, even though I don't like yoga pants, I don't expect anyone to give a crap that I don't like them. To each their own. It's just my opinion.

I've always thought that, the fashion industry being overly represented by gay men, they are trying to get women to look like men. No curves. No body fat.

IDK if they are going for the "look like men" thing, but the fashion industry definitely has standards that the average man just doesn't find that attractive imo.

Can't be that much different than in Western NY. And judging by the pic in the OP's article, it's not.

The photo you see was taken in Boston, likely in one of the nicer neighborhoods, outside a school. When they were inside that school, you have to envision those young ladies without the jackets on. At least four of the six ladies (the one in the middle is a guy) are wearing what appear to be tight leggings/yoga pants. Of those six, only the one on the far left of the photo (in the long jacket) and the one on the far right (who appears to possibly be wearing shorts over them) appear to have any thing else covering their rear ends. The other four all appear to be wearing tops and jackets that do not extend markedly below the waist. You note the photo doesn't show any of them from behind, and I get the feeling there's a reason why.... for at least four of them it appears that may not be a very appropriate angle to view them from.

I don't know about Rochester, but around here (central MA), it semes to me less that the leggings/yoga pants have changed over time than a considerable shortening of the tops/jackets worn by the women. In the past a skirt/sweater/long top was worn over the leggings whereas now more and more of these tops are stopping at or just below the waistline.

my late mother-who was an understated high fashionista (5-8, never more than 120 or so so she had the figure) noted that most of the designers "hated women". She would have agreed with you

Not quite. Runway models are always thin because they want attention paid to the clothing and not the body. The models are considered more like clothes hangers. They are not the equivalent of Victoria's Secret models.

Here's a horrible idea: Implement school uniforms for both sexes. Stick to it. That removes the fashion competition, most issues of distraction, puts everyone on the same fashion level so kids can go to school to ****ing LEARN something, which is what they're supposed to be doing in school in the first place.

That's not why these women are thin. They are thin because designers want people to be looking at their designs and not bulging breasts and bums.

That's such a horrible idea that I completely and totally agree with it.

I agree with standardized dress codes for schools. Students can go forth and express their individuality outside of school and later in life as well educated young adults.

I don't have a problem with uniforms either. Kids do tend to get out of control with their manner of dress sometimes, and I went to public school with no dress code, so I know what I'm talking about!

That makes a bit of sense; however, men runway models aren't stick figures.

Kind of like showing a brand new Corvette in a mud puddle so you won't notice anything but the car. ;)

Well, men's bodies have more muscle mass than women's naturally, so of course they aren't going to look as thin. ;) No doubt about it, they are THIN though.

I don't think there's anything wrong with a person being thin, so long as they aren't bony and unhealthy. Some people are naturally tall and thin like that, and sometimes they can look quite statuesque and glamorous.

I agree that most runway models are TOO thin though. They are usually also VERY tall, so that accentuates their thinness.

Oh, no, there's nothing wrong with being thin. It's when young women starve themselves into being thin that it goes over the top...when it becomes anorexia and bulemia...when photo-shopped fashion photos become something to strive for in real life.
