Yoga Pants - Appropriate?

I do. She just started college.

Think back to when she was a freshman in HS and imagine if she had wanted to go to school with full camel toe and sheer yoga pants.

Thankfully, people like yourself cannot dictate to other people what they choose to wear or not to wear.

I don't necessarily disagree with the school uniforms idea, but to act as if yoga pants are somehow "offensive" is just utterly retarded.

The irony meter just exploded.

I don't think I know what you're talking about. I don't find articles of clothing to be offensive, so please explain.

You are talking about people who don't have much class. Certainly your yoga pants don't have to be THAT tight. I wear them and don't have that problem.

No you're not, you're using a subjective scenario. A false analogy.

The question is irrelevant to me.

Absolutely not. You are judging yoga pants, and I am saying that there could be articles of clothing that you wear that others might find offensive. If that were so, would you stop wearing those articles of clothing? To please someone else?

The best place for yoga pants is piled on the floor at the foot of the bed I find.

I want that guy's job. :lamo

I don't think you want to go through they training that guy does daily to be able to do that. He kicked butt last night

Reread the highlighted portion.

So what if I judge yoga pants? That's a petty fallacy you're employing, there. Some people don't look great in them, and some just look dumb wearing them in minus 10 degree weather.

Deal with it.

Rules generally, and especially in high school, aren't written for responsible people.

Okay... I'm imagining I would have taken her shopping for a pair that fits properly. Now what?

Nice avoidance, suppose she still wanted to wear the ones you thought didn't fit, because she liked them that way and you know, the school said it was okay, and all her friends wear them that way...

Certainly if you have a daughter I wouldn't have to walk you through this, you'd know it by heart.

No, just tell me what you mean. I'm not going to play your stupid games.

Easy there. No need to get excited. You said: 'to act as if yoga pants are somehow "offensive" is just utterly retarded.'

Which I found ironic, given that some may have found that comment offensive.

It would be interesting to know how countries such as Sweden, who are far more rational when it comes to teenage sexuality (because that is what this is all about), deal with high school dress codes.

I'm not avoiding anything, I'm just not sure this is going to work the way you'd like, because you're asking me to imagine things that don't fit my reality. My daughter has always had a near flawless sense of style. I can't remember my mother having any issues in this regard with either myself or my sister either when we were teens. Do you have this problem with your kids?

Are you trying to figure out what I would find inappropriate school attire? Anything that shows too much cleavage, hot pants, ultra short skirts, sheer clothing of any kind. Yoga pants that fit and are not see through are not a problem. At least not where I come from.

You could - but just admit that you don't want to. ;)

I don't get a choice. You folks are everywhere these days. It's like trying to find a plague-free city in Europe during certain centuries of the middle ages.

I think it might help.

Not really, It would just piss me off more.

I've actually never even heard about this sort of thing ever making national or local news anywhere in Europe.

I do remember my kid's school sending parents an email once to remind us that undergarments should stay out of sight, but that's about it.

Also apparently she's never gone through the stages every other teen in the world goes through either (okay, maybe Europe is an exception). Teens form independence from their parents, distinquish themselves from their parents in a variety of ways. You daughter may not have chosen the path of looking different, but many do. Yes, my daughter did try to leave the house on occassion showing too much skin. I told her to try something different.

So, you would consider some dress not appropriate for school. From what you listed, how in the heck could a school form a policy from that? What's "too much" cleavage? What qualifies as "ultra short"? What's a proper fit for yoga pants. You know it when you see it, right? Remember, teens will argue each and every point, every milimeter. The school can't operate that way. Obviously there was a problem with yoga pants not "fitting properly" and now the yoga pants go on top of the refrigerator and no one can wear them.

Who said anything about wearing yoga pants to a cocktail party? Nobody, that's who. We were talking about wearing them to do grocery shopping, taking kids to school, maybe going for a walk or a jog?

Who says it should have never been a fashion trend? You? Well, I guess you're just not familiar with fashions for younger girls who are certainly wearing them, and they can be paired with many different things too, so they can certainly be fashionable.

As a matter of fact, I'm quite sure that by accessorizing and wearing them with the right shoes and top, I could probably get away with wearing them to a more formal occasion.

It's an opinion! I'm allowed to have and opinion jeeeeeez. That's what the OP'er asked for, our input.

Stacey and Clinton also have said it many times on "what not to wear" That's their opinion.

You should never wear them to a formal occasion...ever.

Probably not, but in a pinch, it's doable.

A lot of people look dumb in a lot of things. So what? I think suspenders look dumb. I also hate those boots Uggs. But I don't bitch when other people wear that crap.

I didn't ask about what you thought about other clothing. Nor do I care. Again the topic is about yoga pants.

But I don't bitch when other people wear that crap.

You have been in this entire thread.
