President Reiterates Goal on Homeownership

Fact Sheet: President Bush Calls for Expanding Opportunities to Homeownership

Quote:
The President also issued "America's Homeownership Challenge" to the real estate and mortgage finance industries to join in his effort to increase the number of minority homeowners by taking concrete steps to tear down the barriers to homeownership that face minority families.
Oh my. Incriminating evidence casting the Administration at fault for some of the fundamentals of the current crisis.

Someone's not doing their job over there.

The Dems will never call him out on that because they know exactly where that path leads.

Wait a minute. Who had control of the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs in 2005?

INTERESTING.

Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs - Congresspedia

Looks like the GOP had control over that committee in 2005 when Hagel proposed it.

Yeah, it's amazingly typical of every president since Carter. This didn't happen over night, it took 30 years to accumulate the pus filled corruption.

I don't know about that. The heavy down payment system and restrictions on income were around back then. The only real change we've seen is the GOP removal of the down payment system and restrictions on income. Essentially the GOP tossed out the old conservative banking rules to inflate home ownership and Fannie/Freddy followed the policies. After looking at the 2002 and 2004 Republican initiatives to boost housing ownership, I'm finding it increasingly hard to blame the Democrats. The tone at the top was clearly to push more houses in the hands of more Americans. We didn't see this form of policy in the past and we didn't see Fannie or Freddy buying up such quantities of poor loans.

I think you missed my point. The reason the Dems won't call Bush out on that is because the plan he was supporting was originally created by Dems and has long been a part of their platform. They cant attack his support for that plan without looking foolish, so they've avoided the topic and will continue to do so.
