I really did spend 5 seconds trying to figure out what an "anemploee" is. My mind kept saying "Antelope? Anemone?"
Starting a business was easy, and low cost. It gets more complicated the larger you get, but then, you're also able to cause more damage to people and the economy when you're larger, the regulations scale. I suspect there are plenty of absurd regulations and the like, but government regulation both federal and state is something I believe is necessary and that I support when it makes sense. It's a lot of the other crap that government(s) do that I would like to prevent.
I like to believe that by in larger, government helps create the rules, and we play the game. The problems arise IMO when government makes the rules AND plays the game (game usually meaning significant market action like health care, schools, etc.).
I've always been told and accepted that this was true. I'm not so sure anymore. I've often heard that in Europe you actually get answers, where as in the US you can end up in limbo for years while the state & the feds have a p###ing match over who has authority. I often think we just don't do bureaucracy well. I do some industrial safety consulting and I can tell you my European counterparts just laugh at us. They take a holistic approach concentrating on teaching best practices, resource availability as well as regulation. They refer to our approach as "Cops & Robbers".

These regulations that help prevent these things are NOT the ones we are talking about.
If I want to work on cars for a living, why do I need 6 different certifications, all designed to prove that I know how to do ONE thing...work on cars? Why so many? And why can't I work on cars at a home garage, why is it required that I own or rent facilities?
If I want to open a food service business, why do I have to operate within a "pro kitchen" environment? Why can't a health inspector just come to my house, and see that my personal kitchen is as clean, or, very likely, much MORE clean than any restaurant I've ever worked at? Why do I have to buy specific equipment, from specific manufacturers, in order to be legit? Why can't any old microwave do? Why can't any old oven do? Why is there a government back monopoly around these specific appliances? And why can't I just rent any old place, and, with the consent of the landlord, CONVERT it into a restaurant? As long as it's clean and works, why should uncle sam care, or even have a say?
If I want to be a wedding planner, why do I have to have a "license" to do so? Honestly? Wedding planner license? Really?

Consumer protection...consumer protection creates confidence. Confidence and the fact you know there's at least some basline of knowledge means you're willing to use those services more or are willing to try out different mechanics. If I want to work on cars for a living, why do I need 6 different certifications, all designed to prove that I know how to do ONE thing...work on cars?
