I voted for Jerry and this is why:

In my opinion a horrible simply horrible quote to start off your rebuttal on why prostitution should be legal. Talk about out of touch with your audience! We're all prostitutes? Give me a freaking break. Honestly I couldn't even read further after that.

I did read further, but I had a similar reaction to that opening quote. Plus, I think a lot of her argument was based in anecdotal evidence and I got the feeling she sought out sources that backed her up rather than objectively presenting information. However, I certainly give her a lot of points for passion and conviction.

Jerry, I felt presented a more rational approach to his argument and he presented a WEALTH of links and reference information. At times, I found it tedious to sort through the references, but all in all, they were useful and germane to his post. My vote definitely goes in for Jerry based on that alone.

The odd thing is she not only opened with that quote but then also closed with a bunch of quotes that to be fair are entirely out of context yet she uses them to again highlight the fact that we're all whores which is pretty weak.

While Cher may in fact joke that she sometimes feels like an old hooker I highly doubt she means to imply that she is in all seriousness a hooker and what she does is no different than prostitution. You can't take a bunch of things famous people were quoted as saying in jest and use them as some sort of pseudo agreement that all women are in fact whores. So the opening and closing were weak.

Honestly I have never seen a weaker debate.

I gave rivrrat the nod only because Jerry's opening was so bad and he didn't recover.


Prostitution isn't slavery, which is what Jerry is describing.

Prostitution is simply a contract agreed to by two (or more)people. Prostitutes don't sell their body. They sell a service - and like any laborer - they use their body to complete the service.

And then the argument gets even weaker. If they are being forced into something, it isn't prostitution - but something else entirely.

The guy in front of the McDonalds fry cook is no more willing to perform his service - I guess that is exploitation as well.

Weak. Very very weak.

I suppose I can see the analogy. It's probably the fact that sex is involved that turns people away from prostitution being acceptable. Of course, if I had to choose between standing in front of a frier for 8 hours or having sex for one...I would probably choose the sex.
