if I find an article on Lexis Nexis that contains a quote I want to use in a true debate, and I can't find that quote on the web using google or whatever, then so what? I should be able to post that quote and just cite the source. it exists, doesn't it?
no one has to post an entire article. posting a few lines of text isn't against any law.
this site should be about enlightenment and learning about our world. especially the true debates. it should not be about narrowing our understanding to *ONLY* the things most of us can click on.
plenty of stuff you can click on is inaccurate. lexis nexis is a great tool, available for free at most colleges. anyone that is interested in news and that doesn't use it is cheating themselves.
I have to disagree with any no-lexis-nexis rule. I think it's (forgive me for saying so) dumb. |
This has been discussed before, and it was a mod team decision. Aquapub should remember it well. Most of us do not have access to Lexis Nexis. Therefore, even in a normal debate, it is impossible for those of us without access to verify the validity of anything pulled from Lexis Nexis. It's not fair to folks without access to not be able to read whatever is cited in its full context.
Unfortunately, since the search function is screwed up right now, I can't quickly find what the mod team specifically discussed regarding this, so I'll have to search manually later - don't have the time for that right now. But the bottom line is that we decided against it and that's final.
