Awards: | The "New" True Debates Welcome to the new True Debates
In round two, we have made a few changes, which we hope improve the overall experience for those involved, as well as the viewing audience. The following will describe the flow of debate, as well as the timeline created to make these debates as fast and inclusive as possible. Please understand, that when signing up for debate in this venue, there are certain expectations placed upon you which are not a mere suggestion, they are the rules written in stone: 1) All participants have been chosen based on observed maturity in the forum at large, and are required to use this strength in these debates. Thus a certain level of skill, and stability should be shown in all interaction, at all times….Do Not Flame. 2) As these debates are timed, and in view of the forum membership for entertainment we request anyone considered for participation be as active as possible for the entire debate cycle. Don’t Sign Up….if you Cant Play. 3) Debates will be Judged based on actual debate skills, not on the Issue in question. With this in mind it would be of benefit to both parties involved to use all resources at your disposal to impress everyone watching with inate ability, and sound reasoning at all times. Use of sources ie: links/images/quotes, are certainly acceptable, but will be questioned by moderation when needed…..Play Your Best Hand if you expect to Win. 4) All Moderation is the final word, though anything may be challenged at the end of the debate cycle. Your Moderator will devote the needed time and energy to make this a true debate, and it is expected you will respect this commitment and continue the debate until it is complete, regardless of disagreement about a descision. The Moderator is also, Moderated by a panel behind closed doors to prevent unforeseen, and biased calls…..Do Not Sidetrack the Debate with Complaint.
The Timeline:
Each True Debate, will last for a total of Three (3) days, during which time you will be guided by your Moderator with questions pertinent to the topic, each question will be in play for one day, and individual participants will be required to reply on that day. Rebuttal will also be allowed as time allows, but is dependant on the speed of said replys from the individuals involved in the debate. It is critical that attention is payed to the timeline of this cycle, as failure to post will be seen as disrespectful of your opponent, and there will be no Mulligans.
A final day (day four) will be an open debate between the two participants, and will include active discussion of topics from the previous three days, and closing posts. The Moderator will chime in asking for final statements before closing the thread to further activity.
In the event the debate is unresolved in the eyes of the participants, A showdown will be arranged in realtime, and a devoted chatroom scheduled for a three hour continuation of the debate. The Flow:
We hope to increase the entertainment value, as well as the experience for participants by forcing a certain movement of the debates. To do so it is extremely important that everyone gets involved in the flow. As soon as the debate opens, a discussion thread will also be available. At No Time will participants in the actual debate post in this thread, as this will immediately close the debate, and the debate participant will forfeit. This thread is intended to not only help the Moderator in guiding the debate, but also to foster ownership of the process in the viewers. Please use this thread to the fullest, as it will likely motivate, and guide the participants to an extent.
Debates will begin on Monday Jan. 1st 2007, and will be active every week of that month. A total of four debates will be scheduled, and participants chosen on the Friday before debate begins and notified through PM of the debate topic. The Moderator will choose topic and participants based on post history, and skill level. Upon completion of this cycle of debates, a Chatroom discussion, as well as a suggestion thread will be opened for comments and suggestions as to improvement on the process. Get ready…and get involved.
