Re: 128shot vs hipsterdufus - Violence of Islam

Closing Statement

I want to thank 128shot for giving me the opportunity to debate him on the topic of violence in Islam. I would also like to give kudos to jhuh for his commitment and fairness as moderator.

Intelligent people can debate about how "innocent" the religion of Islam is but clearly, there is a death cult forming rapidly in the Muslim world. As I have stated several times in this debate, many Muslims are basically rational and tolerant of others, but that seems to be a position that evolves in spite of the faith rather than because of it. Those who study world history cannot ignore the large number of Muslim conflicts in recent history: Palestine, The Balkans, Chechnya, Lebanon, Kashmir, Sudan, France, Ethiopia, Indonesia, India, Pakistan, Spain, England and the United States are some that come to mind.

Religious moderates imagine that the path to peace will be paved once we all learn to respect the unjustified beliefs of the others. So we should respect the Flat Earth Society, and the End of Timers too? The Qur'an contains mountains of life destroying gibberish that is used by its followers to warrant terrorism. At the same time Muslim science and high culture has declined since its early years and is currently in a state of anti-intellectualism.

The Qur'an drives the disturbed mind of Osama bin Laden, who is neither poor nor uneducated, to devote his life to killing as many innocent men women and children as he can, while being content to live in a cave. Why do men like Bin Laden commit their hideous cruelties? The answer is that they actually believe what they say they believe. Martyrdom is alive and well in the 21st century and suicide bombers are being trained as we speak to commit "sacred explosions" against the enemy. There are numerous Islamic terrorist groups in the world today and Muslim leaders worldwide have both condemned and sanctioned the terrorist attacks against the United States.

I'll end with this quote:

Quote:
"It is a certain fact that not all Muslims are terrorists, but it is equally certain, and exceptionally painful, that almost all terrorists are Muslims... We cannot tolerate in our midst those who abduct journalists, murder civilians, explode buses; we cannot accept them as related to us, whatever the sufferings they claim to justify their criminal deeds. These are the people who have smeared Islam and stained its image. We cannot clear our names unless we own up to the shameful fact that terrorism has become an Islamic enterprise; an almost exclusive monopoly, implemented by Muslim men and women."
(Abdel Rahman al-Rashed "Innocent religion is now a message of hate." Telegraph. 05/09/2004)

Re: 128shot vs hipsterdufus - Violence of Islam

It is important to note that through out history that all religions have had their violent sections. Islam is no different. We must remember nothing is perfect.

however this does not make it justified. As it says in the Qu'ran, you must respect the people of the book. Its pretty obvious that when Osama Bin Laden and others issue attacks to the west-many of the countries in this catagory have a majority christian population-they are committing a sinful deed. While there are very bloody text in the Qu'ran, the bible also has many bloody texts, and neither of them seem to urge for violence unless provoked by something.

We must also remember that the society in which the current muslim populations reside are often poor and/or oppressive. 18 of the 9/11 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia has had a poor track record with human rights and has since the late 1980s had a very stagnant growth in the economy and infact the average Saud is making less now than 20 years ago.

While in comparison, in places like the UAE, where economic conditions and political motivations are sparking progressive reforms, there is less and less "call to arms" against the west and more internal investing and it makes for a much more stable society. In Dubai, for example, a reporter once said "Its safe to walk down the street at 2 AM".

Both of these are muslim countries, one is currently searching for a progressive future, while the other sits back in its 17th century mindset. This is the current envoirment which fosters violence within any culture, weither the religion is christianity, islam, or sikhism, there is always external factors to consider when you see the headlines.
