Fluoride in the water?
So I've heard this conspiracy theory raised a few times. It boils down to a few points:
I'm a person that responds to conspiracy theories with solid skepticism. Moon hoaxers, AIDS sythesis, 9/11 truthers (though I do believe there are serious questions that need answering about 9/11), etc simply don't grab my attention- they're mostly nuts. This fluoride one, though, seems slightly plausible, though. If fluoride is really known to inspire a false sense of placidity in a population, that would make it an excellent governing tool. It's cheap and can be applied on a massive scale with virtually no other noticeable effects. And the only stated reason for its use is to help prevent tooth decay. Really? Is our government that passionate about dental health? They've been fighting to implement water fluoridation on a national scale for half a century... because of tooth decay? Of course, if it is cheap, and it is beneficial to the health of the population, and it is profitable for some companies, I can see why people have an interest in pushing water fluoridation. I just want to know what you guys know. What does the science say about apathy and fluoride? How much do you need in order for this to occur? Does fluoride build up in your system over time? Blah blah blah... |

Re: Fluoride in the water?
I don't know about the sedation properties--or whether it could have any such effect at the level of dilution typically used in water treatment--but the stated benefits of preventing tooth decay would seem to be borne out by dental associations across the world being pro water treatment.
That said, I am still totally opposed to it myself. Whatever benefits it might have it is still a virulent poison. Moreover, almost every toothpaste on the market already contains flouride and if someone eats acidic foods and doesn't brush their teeth they're going to rot regardless of what their drinking water contains. |

As for fluoride, the science is IN on this one... and no matter how you slice it, EVEN IF fluoride DID help teeth, the 'side-effects' are worse then the issue treated. That said, it's not even really 'calcium fluoride' that gets added to the water, it's fluorosilicic acid or sodium silicofluoride which are waste byproducts of industries, who now instead of having to dispose of their toxic waste (which on the label advises NOT adding to water... MSDS laws are a bastard), these companies GET PAID by the various cities so they can dump that waste in controlled levels into the waterways. Quote:
It's sad, but YES... want the comparison, look at France where the water is NOT fluoridated, when farmers get GMO crops, they'll gather up and burn down the field. Quote:

Re: Fluoride in the water?
*shrug*A dental hygenist told me a while back that she could tell that my teeth had benefitted from having flouride in the water.
I really doubt that the population is apathetic because of flouride, when there's other more valid reasons for them to be apathetic. :p |

Re: Fluoride in the water?
I'm against fluoridation. If I want fluoride in my body I'll buy a toothpaste that has it in it.
I've never used fluoride my entire life and I've never had a cavity. I've only used baking soda to brush my teeth. Likewise, I don't let them take dental x-rays of my mouth every single time I visit the dentist. They do it because they're too lazy to do a visual inspection of my mouth for cavities, even after I tell them I have no tooth issues. The dental field is useful but it's also tied to the dental industry which is an arm of the pharmaceutical industry. They will tell you black is white in order to sell you something you don't need, and you don't need fluoride. |
