...the economy is rigged...
...this is according to Bernie Sanders (democratic candidate)
Bernie’s Conspiracy Theory - POLITICO Magazine

THE CONSPIRACY THEORY:
On the pretense of the economy...Sander's theory is this: “...designed by the wealthiest people in this country to benefit the wealthiest people in this country at the expense of everybody else.”

socialism vs. democracy???

Pre— Boris Yeltsin (Russia) we saw a socialist society in which the wealth transfer began with middle class proletarians and ended with the government bureaucrats...hmm.

Perhaps Bernie may have been making a mistake by adopting the socialist label...

Comments...anybody...?

In the USSR the economy was rigged to benefit the government class at the expense of everyone else.

Putin is in the process of re-establishing that relationship.

In monarchies the economy was rigged to benefit the nobility at the expense of everyone else.

In China the economy is rigged to benefit the leadership and officials at the expense of everyone else. This is true of both Imperial and Red China

In whatever socialist paradise Sanders comes up with the same arrangement will exist without a doubt.

The main difference between a capitalist economy and the others is that capitalism is far more efficient, energetic, and productive and so the whole society is more prosperous. Yes, the guys at top are really really rich, but everyone down the line is living a first world existence.

Russia's economy (today) does not run on commerce...it runs on oil, to clarify...

How, where, when, why, the result of what corrupt political faults...show me empirical evidence.

The guys at the top of Russia are also really, really too.

Bernie is absolutely right about this....why do you think there is a huge populist sentiment in each party? Our economy IS rigged, and that was done through our corrupt political process. This is why I am an Independent.

I agree.

We have unequal representation, in effect. (in terms of money providing access, influencing legislation)

And to provide a double whammy: Citizens United has allowed monied interests to propagandize the airwaves & media, further corrupting the process by going directly at the voters.

Remember, politicians don't work for us as much as court our votes in order to remain in power to do their *real* business, which is taking money & accruing more power.

It's a very dirty business.

I definitely agree. The article actually says we have basically 0% influence on what our elected leaders do. So it's not just unequal, it's virtually non existant.

and Bernie Sanders and people of his ilk are part of the problem as they seek to hand more power to the oligarchy

Bernie Sanders proposes limiting the corporate influence on American politics. Do you have something that contradicts his mantra?

People with money and influence used their money and influence to affect the way our country works to their own benefit?

There's no way that people would ever act like that.

People would never act in their own interests at the expense of the interests of their fellow man.

What a wacky old kook to believe crack like that.

:shakes head:

social (sō′shəl)
adj.
Of or relating to human society and its modes of organization:

society (sə-sī′ĭ-tē)
n.
The totality of people regarded as forming a community of interdependent individuals:

I hope that helps to define what socialist and socialism is all about.

lip service.

governments will always be influenced by money. the more power a government has, the more power the wealthy are handed.

the only solution is to restrict this power, which makes Bernie part of the problem, not the solution.

Corporations are a highly important division of our economy and society. They ought to have the right the petition the government to address their concerns. Wait, they already do have that right, it's the law of the land.

You are not really restricting anything you are simply handing the "power" over to the highest bidder. The power to set standards of behavior cannot be restricted only sold or given away.

So in other words, you have no idea what Bernie is speaking out against but you disagree with him because of reasons? I'll give you a hint, you and Bernie share a mutual feeling that the wealthy shouldn't have political power.

So then you're okay with America being an oligarchy. For no other reason than because the government said so?

That's right. The problem is that many of those laws were WRITTEN by the corporations they were intended to govern. Have you heard of ALEC?

ALEC Exposed

The reason we have 0 influence is because we as a country refuse to vote for anyone but a D or a R. We complain and complain about the representation we have and then continue to bite them in over and over. Force politicians to vote the way they campaign or kick them out the very next election and very quickly politicians will very quickly do the bidding of the voters. In the end we have no one to blame but ourselves.

I agree with your sentiment, but until we expel money from the political process, this will continue to happen. The two party system is awful, but I think a constitutional amendment to publicly finance elections has a better chance of passing (state convention way) as opposed to restructuring our two party system. I'd like to see both happen.

Blaming money is simply giving the voters a scapegoat. How much money a corporation is promising a elected official would mean nothing to the official if he knew that he would be voted out of office the moment he went against the will of the voter. No politician is going to vote for something the he knew is going to end his political career. The voters hold all of the power in this country we just refuse to wield it. Blaming money is little more than not wanting to accept responsibility and blame something else

It's not just the money during campaign season, it's the money given the rest of the time. Would you be in favor of making voting mandatory?

Bernie is absolutely correct

we have the best government money can buy

How does when they give money to politicians change anything. Which politician would be willing to end his career over it. Now of course you will get the one or two who either don't care about staying in politics or are retiring but the majority are not going to be interested in throwing thier career away. And last I checked there is not much a small minority of politicians can do by themselves.

No I am not for mandatory voting. If anything I would be fine with not letting those who know nothing about the issues and just vote for the person with their favorite letter by their name not vote.

No he is not. We have the best government a very partisan and uneducated voting population can vote into office.
