How I became The Trippy Trekker - In Spring 1981, I stepped on the Appalachian Trail for the first time, intent on hiking the whole trail from Georgia to Maine. Later that year, September 6, I fondly remember celebrating my 25th birthday on Mt. Washington in New Hampshire. On Friday, October 9th, 1981, I reached the summit of Mt. Katahdin in Baxter State Park, Maine... earning the status of Successful A.T. Thru Hiker...! Some of you already know most A.T. Thru Hikers acquire a trail name. 35 years later, I continue to use my trail name. I confess my hiking speed today pales compared to my days of glory. In the intervening years I dabbled in a few other endurance activities: bicycled from Chapel Hill NC to Tampa FL; Tampa Bay Marathon (under 4 hours, no training); completed Cape Cod Ironman Triathlon on my 30th birthday (unofficial last place - disqualified for not wearing a helmet on the bike, not because I wore flip flops).

Education - dropped out of high school in Florida, age 15, January 1972. GED Summer 1974, entered college that fall...taking 15 years ( i got suspended one term for bad grades and took a 9 year break) before finally graduating University of Florida College of Business in 1989.

Criminal History - No felony convictions. One misdemeanor trespassing in 1985 (pretty lucky really, 'cuz I got it 'shroom picking, something I did 100s of times with only one arrest). I plead the 5th on everything else.

Political Affiliation - registered as Democrat on my 18th birthday. I have never voted for a Republican presidential candidate. On a local level I have on occasion voted for candidates of other affiliations.

Wives - two... but not in the bigamy way... one at a time and both nicknamed Susie Q.

Children - 4 daughters; the oldest (a kinda snobby Professional Engineer w/ Georgia Tech undergrad and grad degrees and a Princeton educated husband) turns 27 tomorrow. Her 23 year old sister nearly died last year in a motorcycle crash. You can read about it by Googling AMA Michael Corbino dies in accident. The Lithuanian mother of my 10 year old daughter shut me out of that daughter's life almost 7 years ago. My youngest, age 5, just started kindergarten this fall.

Profession - Real Estate Broker for about 25 years.

Best Known for in my community - leaping off the newly constructed Ringling Bridge in Sarasota on September 25, 2003.... just a dare devil act, not a suicide attempt.

Mini Confession - much like the Bruce Willis character in Sixth Sense did not realize he had died until 3/4 of the way through the movie, only in the past few years did I recognize my own insanity. Now I work everyday to simultaneously embrace my insanity while finding my serenity.

Feel some love! May our best times lie ahead!

What an interesting introductory post! Welcome to Debate Politics! I'm still struggling to accept MY insanity. Perhaps you will be my role model. ;)

I didn't know Bruce Willis was dead in that movie. I thought I'd seen it, but obviously not. (See what I mean??)

You'll like DP. Filled with nice people. And great arguments.

I know who you are! I also jumped off the ringing bridge, but in the summer of 2004. I went to ringling vcollege.

Welcome! That was a very interesting introduction. You bring a lot of life experience with you.

Hope you enjoy the boards!

There seems to be a refreshing honesty here that's unusual in internet forums - I like that.

Welcome, Trippy.

Kevin, perhaps you and I in your Ringling Days have carried on in the "debate way" at Big E's Sweets & Coffee across from the College on Tamiami Trail.. or watched a sunset with Erin and Misha right down the street at that point on Sarasota Bay? Kudos for going to Ringling! It attracts talent! Big E's closed July 2015... after more than a 10 year run.
