Second attempt at this post. :)

My name is Richard if you don't like Egyptian-lovecraftian pseudonames, ad I'm new here.
I came here mainly in my search for a home for nonpartisans. You would be surprised how rare a website devoted to nonpartisanship is on the internet.
But anyhow, I saw this site which attracted me mainly for its layout (I have spent years over on RPGnet which shares the layout of this site and makes it more comfortable to use). I also like the mix of views that seem to pass through here.
So, after a few days of just reading threads I signed up.

I am an agnostic, non-partisan which puts me in a fairly unique position in a lot of debates/discussions concerning religion or politics. I think what has driven me more and more to the middle of the road is that each "side" in religion and politics alike seems more and more at war with one another (verbally on the internet and more physically in the outside world). It frustrates me to no end how more and more it seems modern people disregard everyone's view of the world outside of their own and this is both the religiously fanatical, the atheistically fanatical, the leftist and rightist, races, creeds, homosexual/heterosexual, economy, you name it.
I have always said that as long as there is diversity there will be those with a disdain for diversity but it seems, more and more, the disdain is rising and people are almost cornering themselves into more insular circles at a disturbing rate.
Having viewpoints that cross the boundaries of the social labeling "norms" that have been established seems more and more looked down upon.

So, in general, I have been known to be swayed from my views and grown into other views. Despite being middle of the road in a lot of ways, it should not be thought that I have no ideals. Indeed, by weeding out what views I feel can reach compromise and have multiple "right sides", it has left me with a few ideals and viewpoints that I am unwavering in:
‣ Political parties serve two purposes, 1 to divide the people and 2 to keep a small number of men in power.
‣ We are all products of how we have been brought up, the culture we have lived in, and the things we have learned from our direct interactions with other people. Allow that the person you are having a discussion with will rarely side with a "stranger" over those they have sided with for years (even if and especially if that person they've sided with is only themselves).
‣ We can learn a lot from children but the most important thing I have learned from them is the single word "Why?"
‣ People are rarely as evil as we want them to be.
‣ Until you have met your deity of choice you are still working on faith. Until you have completed every experiment yourself and tested every theory yourself you are also going on faith.

Outside of my fascination with politics, I also enjoy writing and reading, art, movies, games, music, philosophy, humor (not to be confused with comedies), food, and racquetball as a chosen "sport" of choice. I tend to be snarky which is sarcastic but in a harmless way wanting to make people laugh more than upset them.

Welcome aboard, Ntharotep. Your name is fine with me as long as no one expects me to pronounce it.

Good to have a non partisan aboard. We can use a few more.

Welcome aboard, although I think that you'll find that one side will slowly become more appealing than another. And I don't mean the right/left distinction, but the 2-D grid of Right/Left and Libertarian/Authoritarian split.

Enjoy your visits, Richard. It is good to see a new American member.

Thank you, everyone!
I'm hoping to have some good discussion and even to expand my knowledge base while I'm here. :)

I ask because if you were going for Nyarlathotep, you missed a few consonants and vowels. ;)

Welcome.
As to children teaching us you may want to add, showing us that sense of wonder we buried years ago, forgiveness is another, and reverting back to playing as a kid does and we did, but had forgotten

Greetings, Ntharotep. :2wave:

:wcm: You have three things in your favor right off the bat, as far as I'm concerned. 1) I collect dragons and I have dozens displayed, which makes my darling grandson sooo jealous - cause he wants them at his house; 2) I am a history buff and your name is reminiscent of ancient Egypt - a period I am very interested in! 3) Your outlook on life is great! Have fun here, and be sure to visit the Tavern here when you have time!

Sorry this took me awhile. I once was attempting to use Nyarlathotep and misspelled the name. I am a wannabe writer, myself (and have the rejection letters to prove it ;), so I used Ntharotep as a "made up Cthulhu mythos deity" and later married it with my love of dragons into a "Cthulhianic Dragon" (even went back and rewrote the descriptions in the short story to make the thing more dragon-like).
Glad to meet another fan of Lovecraft :)

That's what has driven me here

There seems to be more fair play here
