Hello from Norway
Hi There
![]() I'm a 19 year old boy from Norway who's interested in politics. I have mainly been debating on Norwegian forums, but stumbled across this forum. In Norway I'm right wing and believe that the tax level is too high. There are also some local cases I care about such as the "enhetskolen" which is a school system that many lefties argue for. It's mainly that everyone should be approximately at the same level and learn about the same during elementary school. Also, some cases such as immigration where I believe a stricter immigration is the way to go. Anyway, in American politics I'm a bit different as US is different. I have lived in the US for one year, so I know some stuff about how US works, but of course not perfect. I believe that the US need to change it's tax system. They will need to decrease business taxes and increase taxes on income. This will decrease the income inequality which is too big in the US and help businesses grow. I'm also against the death penalty, pro environment, pro gays and in the middle when we talk about abortion. I also have some ideas to improve the school system in the US. I think one of the major problems is that it doesn't focus enough on individual thinking and that it's too easy to get good grades. Well, if I like this forum and get a lot of constructive debate I will probably stay and you'll find more about me |

Re: Hello from Norway
Welcome to Debate Politics, probably be a good idea to take the Conservative tag down till you get a better feel for American Politics though.

Re: Hello from Norway
Thanks. I didn't really choose after American politics. I choose after who I feeling most related to. For me it would be hard to call myself anything other than conservative when I'm a member of the conservative party in Norway and I'm thinking about myself as a conservative. So, I have to be a bit strange there. Sorry.

People like to blame it on everything under the sun except for the real problem (that's typically how American politics works), the real problem being a degradation of familial and communal integrity. Our society places far too much emphasis on immediate material gratification. We are becoming increasingly self-centered and lazy; because of this we are experiencing an overall decline in the ethical and intellectual fiber of our nation. Slowly but surely our families and communities are failing. |

Well, I didn't explain what I meant with individual thinking. Homework counts way too much of the grade, and the tests are way too easy. That means that if you work hard and do your homework, then you will end up with a good grade no matter if you have learned the syllabus or not. This focus on homework has to be shifted to a focus on learning the syllabus. The tests needs to be harder, and as US is a society with a lot of income differences already there will be a lot of motivation to work hard. Yes, there are lazy people in the US, but we don't need everyone to go to university. We only need some people, but some people are working very hard in the US. I mean, in the US I got an A in senior English. However, in Norway I didn't get the top grade before I left in foreign English. That's because it's much harder to attain the top grade in Norway. Norway isn't special in this aspect, because most countries except the US focus on the syllabus. |
