Hey all you internet users out there!

I'm Landsknecht (named after the mercenaries from the Holy Roman Empire in the 15. and 16. century). I would describe myself as an conservative liberal. Conservatie when it comes to family, security and society in general and liberal in economic issues. Not Tea-Party-liberal I have to admit. More like socialist-liberal. Well, that may sound strange to you (it sounds strange to me too) but that's the only way I can describe it.

What else to say... I'm 21 years old, from the german city of Bremen and hope you guys are not too rude with a not too well english speaking Kraut. ;)

Regards,
LK

Welcome!

When I was a kid I remember a story about a quartet of old musicians who also served as vigilantes around Bremen. I think there's a statue commemorating these fine folks somewhere in the town.

No, you have it reversed. Libertarian right is economically conservative and socially liberal, you're the exact opposite of that.

I don't get it. I want less government, more personal freedom but also love my country and want to guard the idea of the "classic" family. Over here someone that represents these views is a libertarian right.

Well, you can't "guard the idea of the classic family" without government force. So do you want more personal freedom or do you want more enforcement of your values?

And as far as economics goes you already said you're almost socialist, that's government control over the economy, and the exact opposite of libertarian right. Look, you can call yourself whatever you want, but just know that you have completely miscategorized yourself.

It would have eased your transition, were you a large breasted woman, but I'll try to see past all that.

Welcome to the forum. We are scum.

Welcome. I like your username. :)

I tend to be opposite.. a Classical liberal of sorts. Liberal social views, more conservative economically and yet I fully acknowledge the necessity of minimal government interference. I don't believe in child labor, and i believe that people have a right to be informed of dangerous materials they may be working with at their place of employment. I also think people have a right to take lunch and bathroom breaks at work. Thus, I ultimately support many OSHA regulations. However, i think they have become too invasive which is the biggest problem with government interference. Anyhow, I look forward to learning more about your perspective. I enjoy discussions with Europeans in general.

It looks like we share a lot more views than you may think. Even the most far right (in the democratic spectrum) over here would be just a "liberal" in the US i guess.

Thanks for welcoming me. I'm looking forward to discuss with you. :)

Hallo, Landschnecht. Ich wunsche dir alles gutes.

You'll fit in just fine..

Hello. I think you'll find some kindred spirits here. And I do think your point of view could be libertarian in the sense our American Founders were libertarian, i.e. classical liberals. They wanted a federal government strong enough to enforce laws and regulation necessary for the various states to function as one nation, to provide the common defense, and secure the unalienable rights of the people, but then they wanted that government to leave the people strictly alone to govern themselves, live their lives, and form themselves into whatever sorts of societies they wished to have. And that included the right of the people to embrace and incorporate whatever religious, family, or other traditional values they held into those societies and that would be enforceable by law.

Very well said! They surely didn't envision what government has become, but they were inspired by something to put those safeguards in place - just in case! Those very safeguards appear to be what is giving some people fits!

Greetings, AlbuOwl. :2wave:
