College Journalist..looking for ideas

Hello,

I'm a media arts major who started working at the college paper for hands on experience. I like writing and making videos.

I joined this forum because politics is one of my beats.

So far I've did an investigative story on the California Initiative Process and covered a battle between downtown businesses and homeless as legislation was passing (sit-lie ordinance).

I joined the forum to read more about what is going on in the world, discuss issues, and possible find story ideas :)

Those sound like great stories. Maybe you could do a grassroots video featuring public employee union members. Be sure to ask them some hard hitting questions tough..

Pension Tsunami

As you can see, the demands made by public employee unions have put the state of California in grave fiscal danger. You could explore the beneficial things unions do and compare and contrast these to their apparently unsustainable pension demands. This dichotomy could be illustrated on the human level by personal interviews with union members and ideally with some local legislators in LA who are seeking to reform the union pension system.
