Seems the American Taliban really wants to get into power, but dont want to loose their millions (if not billions) of dollars in tax free contributions.
Religion and politics do not mix period.

Current Mood: | Re: Ban on Political Endorsements by Pastors Targeted I really, really hope this does not come to pass. If a pastor has a political belief then let him vote on that belief on the next election, not try and get his congregation behind him and providing more votes for his cause. They all ready have that evil, evil bill, "Faith based initiative". If they continue with this course of action soon we will have religious test for office, all ready doing it for special education... Those who want to bring religion into politics are truly evil people. While they are free to practice there religion in this country they are not free to force there religion on others like me, a strong atheist, or what about the Jews, Muslims and all the countless sects in Christian religions (Catholics, Mormons, protestants (and there sub groups)) Allowing religion in anyway into government is asking for trouble, which by the way incase you all woke up and had stupid pills in the morning is the reason that most people came to the Americas in the beginning (to escape religious persecution)

I was meerly stating that they came to this land to escape religious persicution, but now some religious sects want to turn around and force there views on others, the very thing they were trying to get away from.

Current Mood: | Re: Ban on Political Endorsements by Pastors Targeted Pastors have every right to endorse political candidates if they want to. Refusing that would be a clear violation of free speech. However, that doesn't mean that the church gets to keep its tax exempt status either.

Tax exempt status and speaking out about your politics have nothing in common. A pastors job is not to preach about politics but if he/she chooses to do so then he/she is FREE to do so. It may be against the spirit of his/her job but it's not against any rules which would jeopardize their tax exempt status. AFAIK...
I don't think religion should have tax exempt status but that will never change and is a different subject altogether.
