I keep reading all these stories about how Americans need to fight against pornography, fight against obscenity, fight against bla bla. It's really getting quite irritating. You have the people on the LEFT saying violent video games (like gta series) cause people to go out and do the crimes... then you have the religious right saying pornography corrupts our society and makes us evil... it just really annoys the hell out of me. I am agnostic, and I respect people's religious beliefs, but when THEY start to impose THEIR thoughts on what I do in the privacy of my damn home, it is downright wrong. If i watch two chicks in a flick or anything else (as long as they are adults and consenting) it is none of anyone else business what I watch. But according to the supreme court there is a law about "obscenity" let me give you what their definition of this is. This is what the Supreme Court ruled as obscene , which is against the law.

1) A thing must be prurient in nature

2) A thing must be completely devoid of scientific, political, educational, or social value

3) A thing must violate the local community standards

If it meets all three of these things, it is obscenity.

The reason I bring this up is due to a couple cases I have heard about, I'm sick of these religious jerks getting into mine and other peoples private lives.

This link goes to a story about a porn producer getting either 7 million dollar fine, or 32 years in jail for producing pornography with consenting adults (being sold to consenting adults) this is crazy.

Another one, where a persons community (determines if what YOU do in YOUR home is obscene, and can send YOU to jail.)

Like I said, i respect anyone of any religious belief, but it is not right to force others to go to jail because they watch pornography. As long as it is has consenting adults etc in it.

I think we need the National Endowment for the Arts back. And I also think we need art education back into our schools again. Not propaganda but rather arts education where people learn the language of vision.

According to this supreme court ruling, isn't every kind of porn obscene? Couldn't everyone go to jail for watching 1 porno flick in their life, just because their community believes it to be obscene? This is crazy...

I think the decision yields to State's right's, community right's, local right's. After all I do not want a porn shop opening up next to me. OTOH if I had a Mapplethorp or an Annie Sprinkel hanging in my house or looked up porno I think that is none of their business.

BTW Jock Sturges and Sally Mann have caught a lot of heat from the feds despite the vision of their work.

The community standards part is the only real issue involved. Whatever the politicians like shout from the rooftops, pornography in America does not violate community standards. You will rarely hear anybody publicly support that position, but, well take a look at Google Fights. Sex vs Jesus. Guess who wins
