Atheism is a religion [W:1586,2242]

Do U.S. citizens of religious faith have different Rights than U.S. citizens that have no religious faith?

We are all supposed to have the same rights regardless of religion or lack thereof. The government is supposed to be neutral on religion, but it is not. Tokens of religiosity are present everywhere on our money and public buildings and the proceedings which take place within them.

Yes, all U.S. citizens have the same Rights, or all citizens have no Rights at all. Why doesn't government do what it is supposed to do?

The proof that this is nonsense is in the words being used. The word 'Believe'. An Atheist simply does not 'Believe' Full Stop. It is that simple. We do not believe that there is not a god but we know that there is not a god. And we do not therefore 'Believe' in something else instead. We follow science, the world we can see and feel, a world that makes more sense to us.

Joey

There is no HONEST way anyone could possibly know that there is no GOD. It is like saying one cannot prove that there is a GOD. The simple fact is that GOD pulls a person closer to HIMSELF, but if rejected that person is lost forever to any further feeling that there is a GOD and is lost for all eternity.

 Pastafarians are atheists who made up a supreme being to be funny. Don't pretend otherwise.

That has some truth to it. But it is also a simplistic explanation. Cannot fault you as most people only see it or interact with it on that kind of superficial level.
It is not just the great FSM. there is also the jedi knights religion as well.

But it is not there just to be funny but also serves as an effective way of actually defeating religion.

Christians especially have made an art of persecution. Not only are they good at persecuting minority groups such as gays or unwed mothers etc. But they excel themselves at being persecuted. To the point where if you martyr one of them two more pop up so quick it would put a Lernaean hydra to shame.

But the one thing christians have no defense against is ridicule. If we argue against their beliefs and act as if it all very serious they just never stop with their garbage beliefs. Start making fun of them through devices such as FSM or jediism and it just becomes apparent just what garbage their beliefs really are.

"Defeating religion". LOL.

Oh brooooooooother.

Actually, Christians are the ones who started orphanages, hospitals, schools, nursing care, unwed mothers' shelters... They are even very understanding with regard to individuals trapped in various repetitive lifestyles. You will not find Christians beating up gays in bar ---- but perhaps guys who hang in bars might --- if they are being hit on. Most Christians are very sympathetic. They understand exactly what sin is. The social media and secular society has no clue and really doesn't care in the least. The line I hear a lot today is: "I don't care what THEY DO, it doesn't affect me, but I wouldn't do such..."

Yes, we are well aware of how christians ran orphanages.

Nuns in Ireland buried babies and children in mass grave | The National
Nearly 800 children died at the Bon Secours Mother and Baby Home in the town of Tuam, in western Ireland, according to death certificates discovered by a local historian, Catherine Corless. The home was one of several throughout strongly Catholic Ireland.....But the babies and children who died at the home were buried in these crypt-like chambers. Investigators said that DNA analysis confirmed that the discovered remains were of children between the ages of 35 weeks and three years.

"It’s horrific what they did," Ms Corless said....."There was no love, no nothing," Mr Haverty told CBC Radio. He wants not only the Catholic church but also the Irish government to apologise for the way he and others in the home were treated.
And we are all well aware of how they ran hospitals
Sadistic Religious Fanatic: Mother Teresa Was No Saint
The celebrated nun had 517 missions in 100 countries at the time of her death. Yet despite plenty of funds, the majority of patients were not cared for properly, many being left to suffer and die without appropriate medical care or pain medication.
Indeed, conditions in the the Missionaries of Charity’s hospices were deplorable. In fact, Teresa refused to introduce the most basic methods of hygiene, even going so far as to reuse needles without sterilization.
According to one study, doctors observed a significant lack of hygiene, even unfit conditions and a shortage of actual care, food and painkillers. They say that the problem was not a lack of funds because the Order of the Missionaries of Charity successfully raised hundreds of millions of dollars.
Perhaps worse that the medical malpractice, was Teresa’s perverse and sadistic ability to take pleasure in the suffering of others. The fact is, Teresa believed that suffering – even when caused by poverty, medical problems, or starvation – was a gift from God.

You are talking absolute crap here. A simplistic justification for what really is nothing more than a very horrible aspect of humanity, religion.

There is no argument that can be made by any christian that supports that they are good people because they are christians. It is absolutely not necessary to believe in a god in order to do good. Atheists are quite capable of doing good.
It can also be said that both atheists and theists can do bad. The difference is that no one does bad in the name of atheism. Where as it is required to have a god in order to do bad in the name of a god.

Just reread your reply and picked up on another act of evil very common among theists, called victim blaming.

You will not find Christians beating up gays in bar ---- but perhaps guys who hang in bars might --- if they are being hit on.
In other words blame gays when straights walk into a gay bar. How pathetic.

Depressing but not surprising: how the Magdalene Laundries got away with it

I'm sorry for what a group of individuals did while professing to be "Christians". The Roman Catholic church has had many problems. And thankfully, the Reformation brought about a return to the Bible, as well as, a separation from secular "Christianity." Celibate priests is where the Roman Catholic church begins its downward slide into hypocrisy and this only made for a den of male child abuse. As for Gay bars, that sounds to me like a form of segregation/discrimination.

You cannot prove that you would exist without there being a God.

The mere facts that I am here and no proof has ever been presented for the existence of any god is good enough for me.

Sadly, many people believe that works and feelings are what save them. Even King Solomon in Ecclesiastes reveals that in the end faith is all there is in life --- the rest is vanity.

Save us from what? Faith in what?

Unless you want to admit to some part in the crime then there is no need for you to say sorry.

Nor should you be specifically blaming the RCC . The examples i gave were aimed at christians but i can just as easily demonstrate other religions bad deeds as well. From muslim jihadists war mongers to buddhist committing genocide and misogynism.

I think you are attempting to water down what i have argued.
Your claim that christians have done good things is not in dispute. Only the idea that good was done because they were christians. Good people do good things. Bad people do bad things. There are plenty of christians who are in jail for doing bad things. But they did not do those things in the name of a god, they just did them because they are bad people and just happen to be christian. Same with non believers. They can do good things and bad things, but as they are not believers they do not do them because they do not believe, instead they do things because they are good or bad people.

But there is one more category here. People who do bad things in the name of a god. And only theists belong to this group.

As for your complaint about gay bars you defeat yourself with your own words.
You start this post with the words of being sorry for another group, one that you obviously have no wish to be associated with. In other words you commit segregation and a bit of discrimination in the fact that you as a christian deny the christianity of another group who call themselves christian. And then you display the hypocrisy of complaining that gays do segregation/discrimination by having gay bars.

Like churches who have no problem with non believers coming into their church, gays have no problem with straights coming into their bars. And in both there is no problem as long as the person behaves themselves. It is completely unnecessary and impolite to walk into a church and start shouting god does not exist as it is to walk in a gay bar and then get upset if a man starts to chat you up.

Uneducated drivel. Orphanages existed before Christianity and so did schools and charitable institutions, just as did oppression, war in the name of God(s) and everything else that can be good or bad and has been dome by one man to another in the of God(s).

You will not find Christians beating up gays in bar
Right, some so called Christian assholes only want to deny them their rights, while yet others defend those bigots.

There are those who are not Christians, there are those who call themselves Christians, and there are Christians. Not everyone who believes in a god is of GOD. And obviously, the way to get an unsaved individual to hear the Gospel message is to invite him to church. PS> I don't drink, but I do like talking.
