Is Legal Jihad Behind Some of Ron Paul's Support?
On another site I had an exchange with a regular advocate for Muslim issues who called into question why, if I was a US citizen, I would get upset at the "Inquisitions" taking place in Canada with regards to two separate charges against two Canadian publishers and authors, Ezra Levant and Mark Steyn.
For the sake of trying to have this follow a coherent line of thought here are some of the backgrounds of the complaints and the charges:

Award-winning author Mark Steyn has been summoned to appear before two Canadian Human Rights Commissions on vague allegations of "subject[ing] Canadian Muslims to hatred and contempt" and being "flagrantly Islamophobic" after Maclean's magazine published an excerpt from his book, America Alone.
The public inquisition of Steyn has triggered outrage among Canadians and Americans who value free speech, but it should not come as a surprise. Steyn's predicament is just the latest salvo in a campaign of legal actions designed to punish and silence the voices of anyone who speaks out against Islamism, Islamic terrorism, or its sources of financing. Human Rights complaint
On February 14, 2006 the (Canadian magazine published by Ezra Levant), Western Standard drew the attention of the Muslim community by reprinting the controversial editorial cartoons depicting Muhammad, the founder of Islam.[25]
Levant republished the Muhammed cartoons on his website in January 2008 on the same day he appeared before a hearing of the Alberta Human Rights and Citizenship Commission investigating a complaint by Syed Soharwardy of the Islamic Supreme Council of Canada about Levant's earlier publication of the cartoon. Additionally, Sowharwardy has filed a complaint with Calgary police about Levant saying he fears for his safety because of "lies" he says Levant has been spreading about him claiming Levant is inciting hatred. Police say they are investigating Levant as a result of the complaint.[24]
Levant was called before the Human Rights Commission and asked to defend his right to publish.[26][27] Ezra Levant - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |

And with those comments it became apparent to me what life in America might be like if Ron Paul was elected President.
"Legalized Jihad" could take place in Canada or elsewhere, and the US would be unable to stop it because RP says we should not 'meddle in other countries' affairs.' Even though the freedom of speech should be Universal and the freedom of the press should be universal, this poster who supports Muslim issues sees it only as a national concern.
Ladies and gentlemen, contrary to what this poster might think, and contrary to what Ron Paul might think and contrary to what the Mullahs might think, no man can truly call himself free if his neighbors' freedoms can be taken away by Islamists.
Legalized Jihad is where Jihadists make use of the country's laws to advance their cancerous agenda of replacing the current system of government for an Islamic system of government.
Some people still ask how Islamism can be a threat if the Islamists can't defeat us militarily.
This is how.
Legalized Jihad.
We will stand by and politely allow Jihadists to hijack our country using our own laws.
And not a shot would be fired in anger until it was too late to avoid bloodshed.

Here's part of Ezra Levant's opening statement.

The following is excerpted from Ezra Levant's opening remarks to the Alberta Human Rights Commission Interrogation in Calgary on Jan. 11, 2008.
My name is Ezra Levant. Before this government interrogation begins, I will make a statement. When the Western Standard magazine printed the Danish cartoons of Mohammed two years ago, I was the publisher. It was the proudest moment of my public life. I would do it again today. In fact, I did do it again today. Though the Western Standard, sadly, no longer publishes a print edition, I posted the cartoons this morning on my website, ezralevant.com. I am here at this government interrogation under protest. It is my position that the government has no legal or moral authority to interrogate me or anyone else for publishing these words and pictures. The future belongs to Islam
The Muslim world has youth, numbers and global ambitions. The West is growing old and enfeebled, and lacks the will to rebuff those who would supplant it. It's the end of the world as we've known it. An excerpt from 'America Alone'.
MARK STEYN | Oct 20, 2006
Sept. 11, 2001, was not "the day everything changed," but the day that revealed how much had already changed. On Sept. 10, how many journalists had the Council of American-Islamic Relations or the Canadian Islamic Congress or the Muslim Council of Britain in their Rolodexes? If you'd said that whether something does or does not cause offence to Muslims would be the early 21st century's principal political dynamic in Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, Belgium, France and the United Kingdom, most folks would have thought you were crazy. Yet on that Tuesday morning the top of the iceberg bobbed up and toppled the Twin Towers. The future belongs to Islam | Macleans.ca - Canada - Features |
