Good morning Lady P.
They claimed, during the election, that they were committed to $10 billion deficits for 3 years to fund infrastructure and then in their last year they would balance the budget. They also promised a middle class tax cut that would pay for itself by increasing upper income taxes. Well, they initiated the middle class tax cut, which actually favours higher income earners, and it didn't pay for itself - in fact it adds several $billion a year to the deficits. Then, the new Prime Minister went on a world tour handing out taxpayer money for climate change initiatives and others, to the tune of about $4 billion. Finally, the Finance Minister tables a four year budget projection with $29 billion in deficits this and next year and a total of $110 billion over their four year mandate with no balances in sight and no plans for a balance, and in that first $29 billion deficit just $2.9 billion for infrastructure and a whole heap of social engineering dollars wasted, with promises of increased taxes/fees.
The new Liberal government has gone back to their spendthrift ways of attempting to buy votes from those who don't give a damn about the country's financial wellbeing. Unfortunately, in today's society, there are plenty of people who believe that government exists to give them free stuff and that there are lots of rich people to steal from to pay for it.
