the public option is a lot bigger than jiltin joe

that is, folks who look at the big picture, i would think, would not really care much about joe, beyond his use

but the PO, almost everyone cares about, both sides, very much

if you ask americans if they favor a PO, you'll get one set of numbers

if you query, do you want a PO if it means half a tril in cuts to m and m, you'd get a radically different response

do you support a PO if it's financed by 10 years of taxes, 6 years of benefits?

if it mandates and fines and criminalizes and potentially jails our kids?

if it taxes everyone at every medical turn, from devices to drugs to vaccines to mandates to fines to benefits to payroll to small biz to big biz, the rich, the middle and lower classes?

if it puts impossible obligations on our already bankrupt states?

these are the real questions americans face

they're the questions dems face, from pelosi to reid to ben nelson and blanche lincoln

they're also the questions dp dems need to ask themselves, if they really want to be honest

Companies go broke all the time, should thay not be able to provide health insurance?

Of course medicare going broke would be a good reason for reform (just as any company would do), and what do you know, thats what their doing.
