Senate Health Bill Totals $849 Billion, CBO Estimates

Here we go the fight is on.

Senate Health Bill Totals $849 Billion, CBO Estimates - FOXNews.com

Senate Democrats on Wednesday gleefully unveiled their version of President Obama's sweeping health care overhaul plan that congressional budget analysts estimate would cost $849 billion over 10 years-- a figure in line with Obama's call for a price tag of no larger than $900 billion.

"We all acknowledge this legislation is a tremendous step forward," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said at a news conference, flanked by several other Democrats. "Why? Because it saves lives, saves money and protects Medicare, makes Medicare stronger."

"We've traveled really a long ways to where we are and tonight begins the last leg of this journey that we've been on now for some time," Reid added.

The Senate bill, which includes a government-run insurance plan that would allow states to opt out, would extend health care coverage to more than 94 percent of the population, or 31 million additional Americans. It also would cut the federal deficit by $127 billion over the first 10 years and as much as $650 billion over the next 10 years, according to the analysis by the nonpartisan CBO.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid released the bill and its price tag to his colleagues Wednesday afternoon. He has spent weeks merging two versions of the bill that passed out of two separate Senate committees.

I understand the State opt-out bit from a Constitutional perpsective, but it would be a shame if people lose out on health coverage they want because a state's legislators vote for an opt out. I guess it would be too messy to let people opt out on an individual basis though.

I think with 2074 pages there is much to be concerned about.

Senate bill weighs in at 2,074 pages - Live Pulse - POLITICO.com

In the Battle of the Health Bills, the Senate wins out, bulk-wise – weighing in at 2,074 pages.

The House health reform bill was a mere 1,990 pages when introduced.

That means the Senate bill -- like the one in the House -- runs more pages than War and Peace, and has nearly five times as many words as the Torah.

The table of contents alone is 14 pages.

Not much point in getting riled up until they actually release the CBO report. I don't see how this has changed much since the last bill in the Senate, except for the fact that they're adding more taxes and caving even further to the unions.

The opt-out provision is just silly. It's not like the states can "opt-out" of paying the tax increases.

The whole damned thing is silly.

I mean this seems really simple. If they came out and said "We are going to create a government program, funded by tax payer dollars(along with small fees based on patients ability to pay) that people can enroll in once they are uninsurable either due to medical or financial reasons."

You know, I would be fine with that. I could compromise my position for this.

But its not that. It's absurdity on the highest level. Its an attempt at the destruction of the health insurance industry, with "providing healthcare to the needy" as a cover.

I'd compromise on UHC if I thought the government could do it right.

It's a naked power grab. The lawyering Democratic elites want to sink their teeth into America's collective flesh forever and health care is the best way to do it.

I agree, it pretty will looks like s***, they should have given the option of Medicare for all rather than reinventing the wheel. Probably would have come in cheaper as well and used less paper.
