The only deliberate and willful blind ignorance I see is coming from the scripted screaming at Town Hall meetings.

You (and them) are not interested in getting answers or even asking intelligent questions. Because the answers you may get could be contrary to something you THINK you already know about the bill.

The shock...the horror... Our negative talking points are bull****.

I see a group of people being ridiculed for actually weighing the pros and cons of the current attempt to reform health care in the U.S. Then there are those so set on defeating the bill simply for partisan reasons.

As more and more people become aware of how far from the truth some of the far-right's criticisms really are, the GOP continues to lose the respect of independents and swing vote--not a good thing IMO.

Because health care systems are so different. The UK has a larger but simpler system, the NHS. Not to mention, unlike the UK, the US has a huge baby boom generation to deal with. Of course, the UK too has had baby booms, but not near the magnitude of the US, which experienced another baby boom in 2007.

You are exactly right. The Health Care lobby is incredibly scared of losing their massive profits and they are doing everything to change the HC bill in their favor and the conservatives are doing everything in their power to help them whether they know it or not.

It's not that I want them to die; I do not. I want them to go back to their own country.

I am not opposed to providing emergency care but the package, as proposed by Obama, which provides general non-emergency care is unacceptable. This will draw more illegals to this country.

I don't even care if they're here as long as they are legal residents or visitors with a temporary visa.

My problem is that Obama is trying to pass a health care bill that will draw illegals to this country like never before. Why stay in their country when they can come to America and get free health care?

Illegals do not have the right to a free ride. These are people who use the emergency room for primary care and then fail to pay the bill. This means that the hospital has to rape everybody else.

No. Illegals can pay for their care like everybody else.

Thank you for an interesting point.

I suppose then Canada must be awash with illegals far more per capita than American because of this. Its a wonder there are not riots in the streets.

Politifact
No free health care for illegal immigrants in the health bill

Quote:
One of its most bizarre claims is the one about free health care for noncitizens, "illegal or not."

We read the bill and its legislative summary, and could find nothing about free health care for anyone, much less noncitizens.

To confirm our examination, we turned to Jennifer Tolbert, an independent health care analyst at the Kaiser Family Foundation, a nonpartisan foundation that studies health care reform. Tolbert has read and analyzed all the major health proposals, including those of the Republicans, and the foundation provides point-by-point analyses of the plans on its Web site.

"No one's provided with free health care. That's ridiculous," she said.

Page 50, which the e-mail references, is part of Section 152, which includes a generic nondiscrimination clause saying that insurers may not discriminate with regard to "personal characteristics extraneous to the provision of high quality health care or related services."

The section says nothing about "non-US citizens" or immigrants, legal or otherwise. In fact, the legislation specifically states that "undocumented aliens" will not be eligible for credits to help them buy health insurance, in Section 246 on page 143.

The bottom line here is the e-mail is making things up. The bill does not say anything close to "All non-US citizens, illegal or not, will be provided with free health care services." We rate this chain e-mail statement Pants on Fire!

Define "larger"....

Err, that sounds way larger than anything in the NHS. And funny enough you forgot to mention the real bureaucracies.. private insurance companies..
