WASHINGTON — After more than week of tirelessly pressuring Congress to move his top domestic priority, it appears increasingly likely President Barack Obama may have to settle for a fallback strategy on health care overhaul.
Instead of votes in the House and Senate by August, the best Democrats may be able to hope for this summer is action by the full House by the end of the month and some sort of agreement on a bipartisan plan in the Senate before lawmakers head home for vacation.
Not only are Republicans honing their opposition, but some Democrats in both chambers are voicing doubts about moving such complex and costly legislation too quickly.
"No one wants to tell the speaker (Nancy Pelosi) that she's moving too fast and they damn sure don't want to tell the president," Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., a key committee chairman, told a fellow lawmaker as the two walked into a closed-door meeting Tuesday. The remark was overheard by reporters.
Obama has scheduled a prime-time news conference Wednesday, expected to focus on health care. It's turning into a major test of his leadership. One Republican senator says if the party can stop Obama on health care, it will break him.
In an interview with CBS News on Tuesday, the president insisted on action by lawmakers, even as he conceded some of the criticism was valid. Referring to objections from a group of conservative Democrats in the House, Obama said, "I think, rightly, a number of these so called Blue Dog Democrats — more conservative Democrats — were concerned that not enough had been done on reducing costs."

Socialism is a hard sell to the American people. I hope it stays stalled. This is not the solution we need.

Now if it could be put off till hell freezes over I'd be happy. But you are right it is hard to get some Americans to go along with plans that are openly Socialist. If we could get all real Americans to notify their Representatives in thee House and Senate this economy busting plan could be stopped. And while they're at it they should do the same with that phony Cap and Trade bag of lies based on a major hoax.

Republicans calling for "more time" only want to kill health care reform. Since they refuse to help craft a perfect bill, Democrats should railroad through whatever they can pass, then fix it after it becomes law. Bipartisanship is not working, so Republicans should be thrown under the bus.

The only "perfect" healthcare reform bill is the one that is not passed. The Republicans are doing the right thing and looking to stop this insanity.

I could not agree more. It is clearly apparent that the Republicans are completely void of ideas. As shown here quite well they have absolutely no ideas and solutions other than whining about Obama. Everyone agreed a stimulus was in order, yet they offered NOTHING, then make the most egregious of dishonest whining (we now have even Jindal gladly taking credit for stimulus money, what a f***king hypocrite). Most here have shown they have no clue as to why we need health care reform, and what to do about it. When you whole policy is to say no, I say f**k em.

My point exactly. The Republican position is clear. They have removed themselves from the conversation, so Congress should make no further attempts to include them, rather should reject all Republican opinion as counter-productive, as it is designed to be.

Saying "No" to bad ideas is extremely productive.

Saying "Yes" to "reform" that adds costs to healthcare is not productive.

Saying "Yes" to "reform" that adds to the federal deficit is not productive.

Saying "Yes" to "reform" that reduces actual medical care is not productive.

Saying "Yes" to "reform" that bankrupts the insurance industry is not productive.

The bills being cooked up by Henry Taxman and Chris Dudd do all of these things. They are bad ideas, and the only productive response to them is to stop them dead in their tracks.

IF you are for this Bobo attempt to take over control of Heath Care in this country, why do you think Health care is any of Government's business in the first place? Forget the details of Bobo's plan, just answer for me the basic question....Why is this any of Governments business in the first place?
