We made that mistake in the last administration. When will the neocons understand that we are not, nor should we be in the business of nation-building.

...because what we SHOULD be doing is throwing GAS on the FIRE over there and giving the clerics who actually RUN the show a reason to open up the machine guns on the protestors by convincing folks that this is all AMERICA'S doing. Because that would be the SMART thing to do!

I love how the people who are so quick to condemn Obama for "just giving a speech" whenever he says, well, anything, are the same people to bitch that he isn't saying enough at a time when his silence is actually useful. We tried it your way for the past eight years, and that foreign policy drove us into the ditch. Now we're going to try it the grown-up way.

Well, let's start with the basic questions.

What makes you think that Obama's words will have the slightest impact on the final outcome of these protests (and that their impact would be positive)? What makes you think that the protesters welcome American involvement? And what makes you think that it's a good idea to wantonly be a dick toward a government that still has the upper hand over the protesters, with which we have much to talk about?

hmmm...when did Iran develop its nuclear weapon capabilities...hmmmm under the last administration with the nation building policy that you are advocating. Didn't work so well then did it?
