No one even suggested that. I suggested that it was aggravated by the fact that he was in his church at the time not because it was a church, per se, but because of the company you are typically with when in a church...family, the elderly, children, etc.

I'd feel the same way if he'd been gunned down at a chuck-e-cheese or a bingo game at the rec center.

Jerry, celtic:

Does it help you to vent all anger and whatever else is inside you to make statements like that on a forum? Because if it does, then that's a good thing IMO. If, on the other hand, you're just baiting the rest of us, just say 'gotcha' and get off the thread--because, you got me, guys. Your sick little remarks, disturbed me.

Maybe if Scott Roeder spent more time letting it out on a forum, telling people what he was thinking, getting counseling, an innocent man would not be dead.

The interview with Roeder's ex-wife and people who knew him have been very telling. LINK.

Let's see, 9:41am PST -- I give this thread...what, 12hrs., until it gets flushed.

It is truly fascinating to watch people wail and gnash their teeth thinking I would not make the same remark in public.

Entertaining, too!

I submit that even an atheist could find violence in a church especially repugnant, just as he or she would violence in a school or hospital.

Religious convictions aside, any place of worship is even in a secular sense a place set aside for the most peaceable of assembly. To deliberately bring violence into such a place is, as a consequence, a most multifaceted wrong--to the person assaulted, but also to the other people present, as well as the clergy who organize the worship services, present or not.

If Tiller were at a school, or in a hospital, there would be similar arguments to be made.

The standing of a church as an institution of civic society above and beyond its religious advocacy magnifies the wrong of bringing violence within its walls.

The same could be said for any public place. I wouldn't place a church above other public places just because some consider it a sacred place of worship. Children can be just as traumatized by seeing someone get killed in any public setting. I certainly wouldn't expect an atheist or some non-religious person to sympathize with the fact that some consider it a sacred place of worship. Frankly, I don't think that's the biggest issue here. The man was just as murdered there as he would have been anywhere else.

You know, it's funny how often people accuse me of this because of the unusual and harsh nature of my views, and my open support of Fascist political thought.

Do you realize that I censor myself far more here than I do at any public place except for my job?

Nor would I. However, I would elevate places such as churches, schools, and hospitals above a city sidewalk or even the typical restaurant. Even in a secular and civic sense, some spaces are meant to be special.

Korimyr, that's exactly my point.

Most of us have someplace we can go and commiserate and vent. A group of like minded folks who get us.

But when we're sitting at a lounge in an airport or some other similar public area, we don't deliberately make outrageous statements that we know might upset others.

I would guess with Celtic and Jerry, it's half-baiting/half-venting. I say that because I know that's how it is with me some of the time. I make my little jibes at Rush and Sean and the far-right, but I just don't get this issue and the statements they made.
