Re: Ex-Rep. Cynthia McKinney On Intercepted Boat To Gaza
You've been involved in a discussion on the USS Liberty before... if I recall correctly you said "The US ship was passing info to the Arabs and when the Israelis found out they put a halt to it. American policy directives were discussed internally and at that point we came to the conclusion that we had to have ONE policy with regard to Israel & Palestine. Not two. Not none. But one."
So rather than derail this thread let's continue on that other thread please. http://www.debatepolitics.com/middle...post1057681895 Quote:
You're asking me otherwise to prove something I haven't said. I have no verifiable evidence to say that was the case - it's still a current incident and as I said before the boat has done 6 other mercy trips before. It may be that this one has been publicised because an important US citizen was on board. When she wasn't there before nothing happened. |

The (CNN, I think) article I read stated that this trip had not been authorized, the boat refused to respond to repeated radio contact, refused to alter course when directed by bullhorn to do so... and it was stopped. I mean, they're in the middle of a shooting war right now. No boat should expect to be allowed unauthorized, uninspected access to a blockaded port in a war zone. That would be ludicrous. Of course my statement that the incident was forced so McKinney could get publicity was opinion, not fact. I've just watched this mean-spirited woman do the most incredible things to get her mug on the nightly news, that I automatically presume the worst. But I still think I'm right... |

Apparently there was a CNN reporter aboard the ship named Karl Penhaul (strange that there were no CNN Reporters on board any of the other 6 trips... Anyway - if you google Penhaul + Dignity (the ship's name) you will find blogs referring to the fact the CNN reporter confirms there was no radio contact and that the ship was rammed deliberately. You will also find blogs saying that Karl Penhaul has (by association with ****hia McKinney) discredited himself and is falsifying facts and that there was radio contact which the Dignity ignored. Here's my Google Search YouTube - Gaza Aid Boat Activists give their version on the israeli vessel Karl Penhaul video on Youtube - note that at the beginning it does say they are prepared to "run the blockade" so yes they knew what they were doing - however until we see the call logs and check if the Dignity either ignored radio calls or turned their radio off we can only go by guesswork and the video reports. I don't have an opinion yet - I acknowledge your review however and I will wait for further opinion. One thing I am starting to think is that the Israelis may not have known who - here was a ship headed towards Israeli waters and possibly laden with weapons. Just remember there have been plenty of occasions of disputed reports where reporters have been shot by Israeli Soldiers even while holding up white flags and shouting out who they were - or the case of Tom Hurndall a peace activist shot by Israeli soldiers even though wearing a high visibility jacket on a day when there had been no other incidents. American Rachel Corrie is yet another example. I could go on but there is "previous" precedent. |

I have absolutely no evidence to support my suspicion. I'll admit that. But I have seen this particular ex-congresswoman in action long enough to be convinced that she is a bad seed, regardless of her partisian affiliation. Still, I admit that I am basing my opinions on prior "bad acts" and a biased belief that this particular ex-congresswoman cannot be believed without irrefutable evidence. |

Failing this - (I'm no sea-farer) if all ships have to keep all call records we might find whether the captain is lying or the Israelis. As I started earlier we don't live in the same era as the USS Liberty incident and there is so much more monitoring and scrutiny and record keeping so we might find out soon. |

Re: Cynithia McKinney "Relief Boat" rammed by Israeli Navy
What's wrong with trying to bring aid to the civilians of Gaza?
They're caught in the middle of this through no wrongdoing of their own, after all. Why shouldn't they receive relief from peace activists in the US and the EU? What right does Israel have to intercept such a mission? |
